Visibility Slider Issue

Featured Replies

The visibility sliders under ASX settings appear not to work. For example, if a set maximum surface visibility to 3 miles on a runway with 10+ visibility per the metar nothing happens. Coversely, if the metar reports 6 miles visibility and I set the minimum surface visibility to 50 miles, again nothing changes.Any ideas?I am running an HP Media Center PCm7170n, 3.0ghz, 1.0 GB RAM with a Geforce 7800gt video card. Thanks

Hi Jim,Thanks for the prompt response. I have not been restarting. I'll give that a try. In my second example above, it would seem to make sense that if visibility can be lowered from the metar, why wouldn't the slider increase metar visibility?ThanksJohn

Jim,I tried restarting both ASX and FSX after changing the visibility sliders and nothing changed. The visibility depicted is the still from the metar.Any other ideas?ThanksJOhn

Jim,Where would I find that file?ThanksJohn

Jim,Here it is. You will see that I have the minimum surface visibility set to 30sm (trying to avoid that haze effect) yet the depiction in FSX appears to default to the metar visibility. Jim,After openning and coping the config file to post above I started playing around with the visibility sliders again and now they seem to work. When I set maximum visibility to say 3 miles when metar reports 10+ I get a nice fogged in depiction and vis versa without having to do any restarts. I did encounter a somewhat related issue however. The visibility sliders only seem to properly depict (over ride the metar visibility) within about a 10 mile radius of the nearest weather station. Is that by design? Beyond that it appears to default back to the metar. At least that is what is happening around MRCH in my land vehicle. Also, if I am beyond that 10 mile radius from MRCH and leave my land vehicle parked overnight, next morning I notice the temperature per my vehicle guage is like 10-15 degress F lower than what is being reported in ASX. Once I move closer to the station all aspects of weather seem to update properly. Again is this by design or a bug? Any quick fix? Thanks Jim John

Jim,I downloaded ASX about 4 weeks ago. Not sure what build number it is. I have not installed any of the service pacs at this point.ThanksJohn

Jim,Try moving 13 miles outside of MRCH (in a land / water vehicle) with MRCH still being the closet weather station and try changing the visibility slider to say max 1 mile surface visibility. On my system nothing happens. BUt if you start to move within about a 10 mile radius of MRCH, the visibility is propoerly depicted.Give it a try and let me know what happens on your system.ThanksJOhn

Jim,I continue to have inconsistent results when using the visibility sliders. Sometimes the sliders work and other times not.I did a reinstall with the same results. Any other ideas?ThanksJohn
