PHNL METAR in ASX

Featured Replies

I did a quick search of the forums and didn't see this posted, so here goes...Almost every time I load ASX (it's set to load PHIK since I usually like to start flights from PHNL), I've been noticing that the latest METAR it downloads is very frequently 180 degrees off in terms of the wind. For example, if I try to load the most recent METAR string available (29/0353Z as I type this), it gives me winds as:PHNL 290353Z 22718KT 10SM FEW028 SCT045 27/17 A3009The same time off the ADDS website (http://adds.aviationweather.gov/metars/) gives:PHNL 290353Z 07018G23KT 10SM FEW028 SCT045 27/17 A3008 RMK AO2 SLP184 T02670172If using winds off ADDS, this means that Rwys 08L/R and 04L/R would be in use (and during normal tradewind wx at PHNL they are), but using winds off ASX would cause the tower to use Rwys 22L/R and 26L/R.Any suggestions? Has this bug already been addressed? Thanks in advance for any help!

I tried using the new beta version and the PHNL METAR seemed okay but the KSFO METARs seemed 180 degrees off. The only real time I noticed was when I tried to do a virtual flight last night (using ASX) and ATC was only allowing me to choose between Rwy 1L/R or Rwy 10L/R when arriving at KSFO. Due to other problems, I never got to finish that flight, but when I checked the METARs as reported by ADDS the wind direction at KSFO was between 270 and 310.Would it be possible to put an option to download from, say, NOAA's servers to help isolate the cause (maybe the METAR data are being garbled when being ingested into ASX's servers?).

My experience in Hawaii, is you need to turn wind smoothing off, or it will force the surface winds to match winds aloft resulting in inappropriate runway usage. Also makes a big difference for gliders using ridge lift.scott s..

>Hi,>>Do you have wind smmothing On or Off?>>No, it's not possible to use NOAA data, but thanks for the>suggestion. At the moment, you are the only user reporting>this condition, so we'll keep working with you!>>Thanks,>JimI've had wind smoothing on but I'll try turning off wind smoothing and see what it does. It looks like the METAR loads correctly, so maybe turning off wind smoothing will help correct the problem of winds at other airports (i.e., KSFO) as well.
