May 29, 200818 yr Hi guys,I've just moved up to a QUAD Core with Nvid 8800GTS5648(?) 4GB RAM Win Xp32 yada yada.I meticulously uninstalled all FSX stuff from the old rig (congrats to the missus on her new rig ;-)I've reinstalled to the new rig and .....FSX looks remarkably similar to the old one.I must have missed something - I have the bundle ASX/XGAs mentioned in a few other posts - your documentation is quite slim.So on behalf of all ASX/XG users, what exactly can I do settings wise to get the best effects v framerate possible from your product.I know the options are limitless and all but just give me a for instance. If I do all the missions in FSX and Acceleration in order most of which are VFR what ASX/XG settings will give me the best looking ride..If there are any other general FSX tweaks I can use that would be great too but secondary in the extreme.
May 29, 200818 yr Hi,Thanks for writing. Default settings are a good place to start. There are so many factors that go into framerates, but the default resolution of 256 is the same size as FSX.Wx Influenced textures through ASX attempt to match the textures to the weather conditions. Or you can use the Random feature of XG to mix textures up for you. Those would be good areas to start with. Then you experimant with things that look good for you.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
May 29, 200818 yr >Hi guys,>>I've just moved up to a QUAD Core with Nvid 8800GTS5648(?) 4GB>RAM Win Xp32 yada yada.Windows XP doesn't recognise 4GB of RAM or does it? Or maybe it does recognise 4GB but doesn't actually use 4GB. Only Vista. Or maybe Windows XP 64 bit. That's what I always thought. Regards.

(It's a lot more than 4gb, can't remember exact figure).However--you can enable XP32 and FS to use 3.x gigs by the /userva switch...if you're interested, I suggest going to the hardware forum here at AVSIM and using the Search feature with the phrase "userva"RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.16 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
May 30, 200818 yr Thanks for the advice, userva sounds like a very useful tip much appreciated. Not the issue exactly, I really wanted to prompt Jim to write a potentially sticky post about getting the best out of ASX/XG or did I miss that somewhere - documentation is I think everyone agrees a little light on.I also thought last night, why not use the old rig for ASX - and after quite a few minutes which for me is unusual, (I'm an IT sys admin of 20+ years experience and know my way around a Windows network) of getting incorrect simconnect version dll messages I finally found the definitive simconnect fix.Run the simconnect.msi file in the FSX-SDKcoresimconnectlegacySP1a directory (that was from memory BTW I'm not at home right now to check it).Fixed it immediately...You guys should include that in your install on client machines BTW. I think it is redistributable.Instead of the managed version of simconnect.dll was not found please reinstall sdk sp1a error message I kjept getting, better still update ASX to use the SP2 version of simconnect.dll.I am running acceleration on the FSX "server" and had installed the latest and greatest SDK version on the client and still got the invalid message - I'd suggest a code update at some point to at least allow for it. I've also done all the service packs for both ASX and XG on both client and server.Hope this helps.and Jim - with all due respect, default is the easy way out, I would like to know the ins and outs of ASX and what effects what - I've read the doco cover to cover and think I get it but it really would be nice to get all the info in one place. Finally the product is awesome it looks really great on th enew rig with most settings cranked way up. I ran through everything again last night after gettting ASX running on the old rig and must admit my initial post was possibly based on an error on my part.Cheers
May 30, 200818 yr Hi,1. We cannot re-distribute MS files, per MS.2. Many users are not ever going to update past SP1 for many reasons, hence our decision to set our target to the SP1 version of SimConnect.3. A sticky would be great, but there are just too many variables involved anymore with FSX, hardware, drivers, and add-ons. There are no logical patterns that can be summarized as there were for FS9. So that that regard, the default settings suggestion is not "the easy way out", it is the starting point that we think users should begin with. Then, individuals can adjust things to their hardware and preferences.4. There is a fine line between writing a manual that contains enough information without making things so long that users will not read it at all. We always try to find a balance between the 2. If there are individual questions you have on settings/options, please post them in a new thread and I'll be happy to take a look. If I don't know the answer, I'll find out.5. Glad things are looking great on the new machine!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
May 30, 200818 yr Thanks Jim.Call me a tech head/nerd, I needs to know stuff...I'll keep in mind to post the specific questions that I can't find elsewhere on this forum.Correct me if I'm wrong but would simply installing the simconnect.msi be enough to get ASX working across the network (in addition to the file sharing), rather than the entire SDK on the client. Or did I misread the instructions? Finally, do you have any suggestions that you prefer theme wise - or is that what 'default' actually is.The default comment wasn't intended to offend at all, I could have phrased that better.Great product....
May 30, 200818 yr Hi,The .msi is part of the SDK for the client install.By theme do you mean texture theme through X Graphics? I always use the Random feature, even with a flight plan!Yes, please post or e-mail me when needed. We are happy to help. Thanks for the kind words!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
