June 26, 200817 yr ASX SP3 B1160 (default setings)Vista (latest sp)No FSUIPC installedHaving no success with inputing manual (edited weather) via the Wx Config screen. When I hit the apply weather button, weather depiction goes green and stays green but weather never changes in FSX. I have waied as long as 15 minutes with no change ever seen.Normal downloaded and updated weather seems to work ok. Only a problem when I try to modify weather via the Wx Config screen. Well on second thought I don't think I have ever verified that weather updates (10 minute interval) are working either. I do know that manual via Wx Config is not working.
June 26, 200817 yr Hi,Please drop me an e-mail asking for the Wx Config. patch. There is a bug that we have fixed. jim(at)hifisim.comThanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

As long as "Weather Depiction Active" is green, I can not get the weather to load to FSX. When "Weather Depiction Active" goes white, I can get the weather to load into FSX. This would be fine except "Weather Depiction Active" is green for very long periods of time. I tried "Refresh" and "synthesis" becomes active, but as long as "Weather Depiction Active" stays green nothing changes when I "Apply Weather".I did install the patch.
July 2, 200817 yr Hi,After you click on Apply, synthesis should become active and then become inactive. When it becomes inactive is when the new weather should be sent to FSX. Remember to give FSX some time to show the weather. Also, make sure you are at or inside the application range. Please let me know.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
July 2, 200817 yr Sorry Jim but no luck.I started ASX per normal procedure, allowed initial download and synthesis to complete and then launched FSX. I got the ASX connected message and the initial weather depiction in progress ...please standby message. I waited until I got the initial weather depiction complete message, which took several minutes. I then went to the Wx Config screen and immediately noticed that "Depiction Output Active" was green. I went ahead and modified the metar string and hit the parse button(Depiction Output Active was still green). I then hit the apply weather button (Depiction Output Active was still green). I did not see synthesis become active if this is supposed to happen. I switched back to FSX and waited 10 minutes. The weather never changed. I went back to the ASX Wx Config screen and now noted Depiction Output Idle (in white) was being displayed. I hit the apply weather button again, very quickly hit OK in the message box that pops up and went back to FSX. This time the weather quickly changed in accordance with my modified metar as expected. As I stated in an earlier post, I have only been successful with weather modification from the Wx Config screen when Depiction Output Idle is being displayed. Unfortunately 90% of the time Depiction Output Active is being displayed and it takes a long time to catch it in an idle status.I have tried this with Force High Priority Processes checked and without Virtual Stations. Neither made any difference.I have a fairly nice machine (dual core, 2 gig ram, 8800GTX) so I don't think its related to my hardware capabilities. The only other thought I have is related to that text box that pops up when you hit apply weather. I noticed that Depiction Output Active goes green (if it isn't already green) almost as soon as you hit the apply weather button. If you delay by a few seconds hitting the OK in the text box, could that be throwing things off or is that just information you are acknowledging? Is the program code waiting for a user response here before it sends data to FSX? If so Depiction Output Active is coming up to soon. It's getting late. Go to bed. This can wait till tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
July 3, 200817 yr Hi,I did look into this today and the only think I noticed is that when Depiction Output was green the update did take longer than if it wasn't green.Yes, the popup is just information about Refresh.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
July 3, 200817 yr Jim is there any way to stop depiction output? What I notice is that even though it is active for very long periods, nothing seems to be changing in FSX. This may be intentional in order to make weather changes very subtle in the sim. Sure eould be nice if Apply Weather would override it.
July 3, 200817 yr Hi,In your ASX.cfg file there is a line called UpdateRange that your could change, but we don't recommend doing this.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
July 3, 200817 yr Commercial Member Hi,Please list instructions/steps to duplicate this, i.e. what airport, what order of starting things, what you are manually setting, etc.The patch described has to do with manually setting weather with FS not loaded... not related. In any case, the duplication steps and log file (xengine.log) along with your configuration (asx.cfg) would help to identify what the problem is.Thanks! July 4, 200817 yr Hi Damian. Thanks for helping out because I'm still having to wait until "Depiction Output Idle" is displayed in order to get weather to change from the Wx Config screen. As I state below, it takes quite a long time for "Depiction Output Idle" to display.I have been testing this at KTVR.I start ASX per normal procedure, allow initial download and synthesis to complete and then launch FSX. I change location to KTVR on the Free Flight screen in FSX. (ASX picks this up and goes through a synthesis routine which I allow to complete.)I then launch the flight in FSX (Fly Now button.I get the ASX connected message and the initial weather depiction in progress ...please standby message. I wait until I get the initial weather depiction complete message. I then alt tab to ASX and go to the Wx Config screen. "Depiction Output Active" is always green at this point. I modify the KTVR metar string and hit the parse button(Depiction Output Active is still green). I then hit the apply weather button (Depiction Output Active is still green). I switch back to FSX and waited 10 minutes. The weather never changed. I go back to the ASX Wx Config screen and wait for Depiction Output Idle (in white) to be displayed. I hit the apply weather button again, very quickly hit OK in the message box that pops up and go back to FSX. This time the weather quickly changes in accordance with my modified metar as expected. The metar's follow:KTVR 040453Z 00000KT 10SM CLR 23/21 A3003 (original download)KTVR 040453Z 00000KT 1SM +RA BKN010 23/21 A3003 (as modified)00:37:26: Logging Initialized00:37:26: XEngine v1.0.0.332 Copyright
July 4, 200817 yr Damian,One additional fact that may help. This morning while sitting at KTVR I modified the metar for KMLU which is over 50nm away. I then used "Go to Airport" in FSX to position myself at KMLU. The weather at KMLU was exactly what I had called for in my modified metar. For some reason the weather is not changing if I am sitting at the field whose metar I modify. Apparently it is changing if I specify a field away from the one where I am positioned.
July 10, 200817 yr Hi,I have the exact problem on a networked computer running WinXP on the server and WinXP on the client. Simconnect is running fine.I went and tested ASX on a separate stand alone computer running Vista with ASX and FSX which also produced the same problem as mentioned above. Looks like the problem is with "WX Config" in ASX.Martin
