August 16, 200817 yr When obtaining a weather report by importing a flight plan from FS9 I get conflicting wind speeds. For example I just did a FP for KLAS-KSAN and the nav log and waypoint section shows the following: Average Route Winds for 22000ft: 252/6So I averaged the wind speeds in this section and came up with 7.85Now in the winds aloft box there is no column for FL220 so averaging the speeds between FL180 & FL240 I got an average of 9.75 for wind speed. So I'm a little confuse as to the exact wind speed to enter into the FMC.Thanks for any explanation for the differences. This could possibly vary significantly at higher elevations.
August 16, 200817 yr Hi,Wind speed at 22k would be based on the 24k values. Use the Active Sky values because that is what FS is going to end up using.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 16, 200817 yr Author Thank you for your reply, and so promptly I add. So I shouldn't use the averages as shown in the waypoint section, but the column in the winds aloft box, correct?Jim D.
August 16, 200817 yr Hi,If the FMC is asking for waypoint winds use the column in the winds aloft box. If asking for a average for the whole flight use the Active Sky average. Thanks, Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 17, 200817 yr Author Well, that is what is causing my confusion. The average in the nav log box is lower than the wind speeds in the winds aloft box. If the average is 10 kts in the winds aloft box, how can it be that the average is only 8 Kts in the nav section?I'm not trying tobe diffilcult, it's just that the math doesn't add up. Also I haven't seen the FMC ask for winds at waypoints on the PMDG 737. On tne init ref page it only asks for cruise wind direction and speed. Thanks for your patience.Jim D.
August 17, 200817 yr Hi,The winds in the Aloft Winds Report by Waypoint section are not averages, but actual data points. I just worked out a 14 point plan and everything was OK.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 17, 200817 yr Author I believe I figured out the problem. I was including the wind speed for the departure airport which would be, I assume, from ground level. Leaving out that figure, the average equaled what appeared as the final average for wind aloft. Thanks for your interest and help.Jim D.
