Hi Guys,Let me apologize for the delay, but in our defense, this thing was not supposed to be released until Friday the 21st. But, our eager and hardworking volunteer webmaster, Fred Pierce, made the order link active a few days early. I take the blame for this, because I had asked him to get the B-25 pages and link up and checked and forgot to tell him we did not want it to appear until release day. All my carefully laid plans, mainly consisting of burning and laying up an initial stock before D-Day, rapidly went up in flames!:-ukliamWe have been playing catch-up ever since. I have burned, labeled, and shipped to MAAM about 1000 FS CD's and 500 of the multi-media ones (doesn't help that we have two products released together - at least on the production end. My problem.I'm afraid the unexpectedly heavy demand, while most gratifying and appreciated by the museum from an income standpoint, is taxing us in other ways. Aside from me trying to keep ahead of the curve, and I run two 24-speed burners every minute I'm home and awake, which is all but about five hours, on the average, and one while I'm in the office, Pete and the museum volunteers have had to pretty much put other work aside to process and fill orders. We ran out of mailers, as if the CD shortage was not enough. The weather has worked against us, too. Enough crying on my end. :'(Here is the latest report from Pete in Reading, just received:"We've received mailers, discs from Bill, including the ones not in jewel cases, and the shipment of 500 jewel cases, so I guess that we'll be starting to catch up today. We are still working on filling Sunday's orders."That's the story. Everyday I mail another priority shipment to Pete, so he should receive one every day. Orders from Wed through Sat have already been shipped, and as you just read, at least Sunday's will go out today, maybe more. I just returned through the snow (again! - did you know that Mustang GT's with 18" rims and racing tires aren't worth a damn in snow?) from the post office where I sent off another 255 burned since yesterday's shipment. The burners are humming still, and will be until midnight tonight. So, if you are impatiently waiting, believe me it isn't because we are not busting our asses to deliver. On the other hand, if you are inclined to cut us a little extra slack because we are a non-profit, volunteer run organization, then BLESS YOU. :-bigangelFinally, I don't want to discourage anyone from ordering the CD's, because the museum gets all the proceeds from those, and the extra stuff on them really is a great part of the package - the Pilot Training Manual and instructional videos, but some relief is on the way if you just can't stand to wait...The contract between the Avsim Store and MAAM was signed and I have uploaded the download version, along with the text and screenshots they will use. They are setting up the site and testing everything. Remember, I said the DL would be released on March 1? Well, if you are west of our time zone, which is Eastern US, it will actually come out in February! ;-) That's because the link will go active at 0001 on March 1, so all you Californians can get it at 2100. All others, check your local time zones. :-)) You Brits and Europeans can have it in time for breakfast. The price for the DL version will be $24.95, and the majority of that goes to MAAM. So, to get the most bang for your buck, and do the most good for the museum, we still think you should order the CD. Or, what the heck, get both. Be a hero! >:-) Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif

"I have uploaded the download version" I'm scratching my head?? If you upload the download won't that cancel the whole process?? Hmmmm... Very strange you folks east of the Colorado... I ordered mine on Wed the 19th so Guess it will get here this week... Too bad I don't have access to a CD burner Bill, I have been off most of last week and this, could have helped you out.. Looking forward to the CD's, I even like flying the demo.... Mike B.

Hey Pete, I never stop. The brain farts that intersperse my replies coincide precisely with feeding one of the two burners every couple of minutes. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it! :-))Thanks for the understanding, troops. I believe it is first class mail and you will see them arrive in a padded brown envelope. One of the guys who already has his can confirm.Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif

I ordered mine last Friday (the official release date). Tried to calculate what day it would be here, so I took this afternoon off and came home early in total anticipation. It was a no show :( However being that my linux server at home decided to give me a little crap and needed some attention my afternoon was spent attending that matter. I have pretty much decided that if the CD does not make it to my door by late (very late) this coming Friday night, then you will get another $25 from me and I will order the download version too. My impatience is your reward! ;)I do have a request though. There is myself and two of my friends (and they should be ordering their birds soon too) we would like to see you do the P-61 Black Widow. That bird is a favorite of ours and being a MAAM bird we thought it could be in the running for development.Any way, good night!JohnnyKTUS

Hi Johhny,I think that's a fine idea! :-) Buying both versions, that is;-) The P-61 is a good idea, too, but there's a little problem with that one. Since our modus operandi is to produce all of our texture bitmaps, inside and out, from digital photographs of the actual aircraft, the flight dynamics are modeled on the real thing, and the sounds are recorded, live... Are you beginning to see the problem?Alas, despite having a team of volunteer specialists who show up faithfully everyday to work on the resurrection process - and I say that word advisedly, rather than restoration - see the Widows Web for the reason: http://www.maam.org/p61.html - the P-61 is far, far from finished. The problem is the usual one in restoring a rare airplane, unless you are someone like Kermit Weeks or the NASM - lack of money. Although the progress pictures on the website are dated, she is still a fuselage without her wings and a lot of internal and external work is yet to be done before she can even look like a complete airplane, let alone fly.MAAM members will have received the newsletter, or will in the next few days, containing a progress report on the Widow. If you are not a member, and would like to join, go to www.maam.org and for just $45 you can become one of us. Your participation brings the day when the only flying P-61 again takes to the skies, that much nearer. When that day comes, if we are still around, you can bet we'll do a package on her. In the meantime, if you have any pull at Northrop Grumman or Microsoft, or some other would-be benefactor.... ;-)Just imagine an air show "heritage flight" consisting of the P-61 "Black Widow" and the B-2 "Spirit"! :-yellow1 :-yellow1 :-yellow1 :-yellow1Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif

Alright then: here I am, after a couple of hours of flying "Briefing Time". I am VERY much impressed, even if I haven't figured out most of its goodies. As a notorious virtual cockpit hater, I must now confess that BT has converted me. On my lowly Celeron 1000, with frame rates eatng eDimensional glasses on, the VC is so good that I found it worth my while to shift some sliders somewhat further to the left, in order to have about 18 fps (which is also where I've locked it). The Briefing Time VC with eDimensional stereo is SPECTACULAR!Got some questions though. I thought there would be THREE versions installed, but I can only find 2: low and medium. The heavy version is AWOL. It's in the folder alright, but not in the FS menu of planes. Does BT while installing check the processor, and not install the heavy version when processing power seems insufficient? Or is it because I did not remove the trial version first? That ne of course is still there, so in a sense I DO have three versions (grn)! Then: is it possible to get acces to the WW2 pilots handbook without having to open the map and dig out every page indivdually? If so, where should one look for the right place to click? Last question (to which the answer probably is: no...): can I remove the yoke from the virtual cockpit? I don't need two (grin): I already see my CH yoke in front of me, and I have no real need to see another moving yoke on the screen. Guys, I waited 6 days and believe me: they were HARD days! But Briefng Time sure was worth the waiting! All you guys who worked on it: I take my hat off to you! Brilliant piece of work!Jaap Verduijn.

Actually we're so nice we put the newsletters online too. You can catch up on the P-61 etc. at http://www.maam.org/newsletters/memupdt.htmlbut don't let that discourage you from joining! I'm sure we'll all calm down when the BT arrives, which it will, although I'm up against the Chicago Post office (ordered mine last wednesday). You must realize that when you create something this cool, it's the closest an old guy like me gets to being an 8 year old on Chrismas Eve. Thanks for keeping FS interesting and fun. Marc
