Gmax R4D

Featured Replies

Sirs,What's the situation with the R4D? I've seen lots of screenshots of her but I'm confused as to how many versions there are and the different websites it's on. Can I buy the Gmax R4D from MAAM?Regards,Bob

Hi Bob,There is, currently, no GMax version of the MAAM R4D available from MAAM-SIM or any other location. The newest version is the last pre-Gmax aircraft.I can't comment on as to whether there will be a GMax version released before or after FS2004 because I don't know, so I'll leave that to Bill! ;-)Ian P.:-halo

Are there any copyright issues, I just skim read the front page at avsim. I hope the Gmax R4D can be released, it looks great!

Hi again.Just found this page;http://www.maam.org/flightsim/r4d/fsr4d_6.htmlLooking forward to it. BTW - I'm a very poor student scrapping together a living and therefore I only have a "solo" card. Can you make it so there are more ways of paying? "Solo" is accepted at websites like PSS and SSW.....Regards

To answer a couple questions at once...There will be no copyright issues in the Gmax R4D. All the graphics on all versions of the R4D were created by Jan and me, from my photos. Roy never photographed the Douglas, so there can be no mix-ups. Rob is doing a new flight model and Fred is doing all new programming, with no bug-ridden anti-piracy coding. Jan and I will produce a new sound pack. Now, for the big question...... We are putting together a demo model that you can fly at the World War II Weekend show, June 6-8, featuring a dazzling new shiny metal livery for the old girl, the new OEP I previewed here, Rob's flight model, and a new sound suite. There will be no production model release before FS2004, though. Sorry, but it will probably take us that long to finish anyway, and it would make no economic sense to release for a soon-to-be outdated sim. We'll try to make it backward compatible for those who want to hang with 2K2 for a while longer. The R4D will have to compete with the Century of Flight DC-3, but.... well, I don't want to sound like you know who, so you'll just have to come to the show and see for yourself. >> The R4D will have to compete with the Century of Flight DC-3, but....Well, without going into semantics, IMHO I beleive it's the poor MSFS ACOF DC-3 that will have to compete with the MAAM-SIM R4D, and I'm willing to bet the latter without any doubts will be the winner of that match! :-hah Cheers,-- Stefan

Unfortunately, as far as I know, debit cards don't cross the Atlantic very well at all, so the chances of MAAM being able to do anything useful with a Solo or Switch card are vanishingly small, sorry.--M

>The R4D will have to compete with the Century of Flight DC-3......and I personally think the R4D will win the competition hands down. But being more of the civilian aviation type, I'm really still looking forward to a FS2002 DC-3 package made with a quality at least near of your R4D. Until then I think I'll have to do with Jan's old FS2000-model and a self-made panel.http://koti.mbnet.fi/hepo/pictures/ohlch.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/hepo/pictures/ohje.jpgAnd below a pair of pictures of the real DC-3 in old Finnair colours, which (among 3 other DC-3's from Sweden, Norway and Estonia) will be seen on May 18th at an air show on Malmi airport in Helsinki. You can be sure that I'll be there... ;-)http://koti.mbnet.fi/hepo/pictures/realpanel.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/hepo/pictures/dc3efhf.jpg

Yes, she is a real beauty, isn't she. I've seen her once in real life, at the airport of Tallinn, Estonia, I think it was. I was planning on going to the air show at Malmi you mentioned, in the Flying Veterans Association of Stockholm DC-3 "Daisy", but unfortunately that trip was booked full before you could say "Douglas Commercial Aircraft."http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/9303.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/9305.jpgCheers,-- Stefan
