November 15, 200322 yr I just finished watching the 'Top 100 books' program on the BBC. One of the reviews was for Catch-22 and the book's sponser, the political reporter, John Sargeant was doing an awful lot of flying in a familiar looking B-25J ;). Footage from the bomb-aimer and gunner positions aplenty. :9Sure enough, when the B-25J landed and swung around, there was the 'Briefing Time' signature in full view. Sweet!. :-lolMade me realise just how good the MAAM FS version is...and how far there still is to go to get MS Flight Sim 'As good as it gets"!:-rollCheers:-waveSatchmo
November 16, 200322 yr I saw that too, the signature aero-breaking technique on the landing as well ;)Too bad that most of the historical shots they interspaced were B-17's...
November 16, 200322 yr Yep and you can clearly see big Russ, the museum prez in the captain's seat as she taxied by! I was surprised the BBC film crew went to KRDG when there are some B-25's in Europe. But I noticed that John did several peices to camera from Washington DC so that must be it.Glad someone else saw the programme. I was beginning to think I was the only one.Tim http://www.spottedantelope.com/bwomack/ima...aam-sim_sig.gif
November 17, 200322 yr >Glad someone else saw the programme. I was beginning to think>I was the only one.Guess who saw it too... :-cool Amazing the effort ( and no doubt truckloads of money ! ) that the BBC puts into these kind of programs. I coincidently stumbled over it during Tolkien's Lord of the Ring topic so you bet i kept hanging on ! Loved the Whutering Heights piece as well. And if that wasn't enough already here comes BT close up in view ! :-eek Was meaning to tell Bill about it but obviously not needed anymore... (-:So what's *your* favourite book then ? Is it amongst the collection ?Btw, i couldn't quite catch that ( no pun intended ;-) ) but does this contest only concern English literature ? If so, always thought Joseph Heller is American....Jan
November 17, 200322 yr Hi Jan<>I don't think especially English. English speaking certainly for obvious reasons! It was a well done programme though. Did you notice that all the archive was footage in the piece was from William Wyler's "Memphis Belle" documentary? <Well I havent seen the whole series so I don't know whats in the list so far. I don't have one favourite. A top 10 sure. I suppose "Lord of the Rings" made a big impact on me when I was younger. Sure "Catch 22" too which I first read when I was at school for it's anti-war sentiments and because it made me laugh. Nowadays books like "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemmingway and "Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest Gann would be high on the list too.I think LOTR will win the BBC programme though.Timhttp://www.spottedantelope.com/bwomack/ima...aam-sim_sig.gif
November 18, 200322 yr Hi Tim,>I don't think especially English. English speaking certainly>for obvious reasons! It was a well done programme though. Did>you notice that all the archive was footage in the piece was>from William Wyler's "Memphis Belle" documentary? Sure! I recorded that docu already many years ago when we still had Discovery overhere. Not even one second of the Catch 22 movie itself, i guess even for the BBC that was too much to pay for... ;-) >Well I havent seen the whole series so I don't know whats in>the list so far. Got a couple of 'Gann's ' here, but in dutch. 'Catch 22' is fantastic, the book as well as the movie.>I think LOTR will win the BBC programme though.Really ? Must be because of the recent movie's hype possibly....? It sure is one of my favourites too ! Always thought it was impossible to make a movie out of it which could stand in the shadow of the book but they really did this time. I have the first episode 'Fellowship of the Ring' on video here, if you haven't seen it yet you're welcome to it.Jan
November 18, 200322 yr I actually warned everyone it was on several message threads ago... ;-)Ian P.BTBT Gopher and Random Beer Crate Rotator.:-halo

Not even one second of the Catch>22 movie itself, i guess even for the BBC that was too much to>pay for... ;-) Well there was an hour long documentary on one of the info channels (History or Discovery or Adventure) about "Catch 22" a couple of weeks ago. It was very good but I forgot to tape it. Next time it comes around I'll grab it for you.>I have the first episode 'Fellowship of the Ring' on>video here, if you haven't seen it yet you're welcome to it.I got the 2nd on video too when I was in the UK.
