July 7, 200421 yr I seem to have a problem with the new DC3 from MAAM.I am not getting any sound for the right engine when I switch on the fuel pump, start and vibrate switches even though I follow all instructions. this does not occur with the left engine, sound works. Also, the engine will not start. I can do so w/ CTLR-E, but I wish to do so manually. Any others experiencing this problem? Any ideas? I have the same issue whether I use the Beta sound or the 1.52 sound module. Help is appreciated. Thanks, Jim
July 7, 200421 yr Mixture set to full auto rich?System specs would assist in troubleshooting. Try and include as much information as you can, especially soundcard, drivers and operating system. You've given absoutely nothing to go on so far!Allcott
July 7, 200421 yr Hi Jim,I had the same problem. If you look at the start and vib. switches the down position starts the right engine and then move them up to start the left.Regards,Robert W
July 8, 200421 yr Author Thanks Robert but that is not the problem I think I'm having. The problem is 'no sound effect' for the fuel pump when turned on for the right engine, als, no vib sound for same engine. However, it now starts with sound. Maybe the distance from the pilot to the pump is too far to hear as well as the vib? Another problem is that after some time, and when I make a change in view, or go to map, or any number of other changes while flying, the game "locks up", just freezes, then I need to reboot. Frustrating indeed. If you know a solution to this one I'd apprciate it. I know I saw a thread on this somewhere in the forum but can't remember where and can't yet find it.Jim
July 8, 200421 yr Author OS is XPvideo= ATI Radeon 9200 w/ 256mgProccessor= Pentium 2.4Motherboard= ECS Elitegroup P4 memory= 1g 3200 DDRCH Virtual Pilot Pro yoke (gameport connection)CH Pro pedals (gameport connection)Just downloaded FSUIPC 3.30I can get the right engine started and it does have sound. However,I don't hear the right fuel pump nor the turning of the right engine when the switches are used for the right engine. Is one supposed to hear them? I hear them when the left engine switches are used. Another issue is that the sim freezes up every so often. This occurs when I make a change in views, or most recently, when I switched to 'map view'. This happens at different times, the latest when I was nearing the end of my flight and switched to 'map view'. Thing just froze, no error messages, just froze in 'map view'. Any ideas? Thanks again,Jimp.s. Everything else seems to be fine.
July 8, 200421 yr From your specs I assume you have an onboard sound card as you don't mention any kind of sound hardware.I think, if a reinstall doesn't cure it, you'll have to spend a few bucks on a decent sound card. Sounds like you are missing a channel. You can check for proper operation of the sound by going to Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices and checking each tab in turn. Possibly you have speakers set up in the wrong combination. You can also check in the Sound menu of FS and turn the complexity to `minimum`.But I would say that it's most likely that you are simply having a system resources issue - the strain of the MAAM DC-3 is showing up the weakness in your system, as the onboard sound is drawing too heavily on CPU time. But I would start with a reinstall, just to make sure you haven't accidentally deleted or corrupted something. Hope this helpsAllcott
July 8, 200421 yr Author Thanks, but I had already run a re-install and still the same issue. I'll check out the sound card issue and you're correct, the sound is an 'on board' system. Any ideas on the 'freezing' up of the sim? I redid the same flight with a "default' plane, making all the various changes as I did with the DC and no freeze ups.
July 8, 200421 yr Author Another question; Why does the DC3 load being "too heavy" with passangers and or cargo? I need to redo the wieght each time before flying.
July 8, 200421 yr It's configured as a four-tanker. You'll note that the default DC-3 has three tanks. Most DC-3s in commercial use reduced to three tanks - or were built that way - because they didn't need to fly long-haul and that way they could maximise their pax load. Those flying the original four tankers i.e. C-47-style, had to choose between full tanks or full pax load. Hence, it follows that you also need to configure your MAAM aircraft accordingly. That said, I recently put down a book about Roy Farrell's delivery trip of "Betsy", when he bought her for $30,000 in 1945, from La Guardia to Shanghai. Flying via Brazil to find the shortest hop over the Atlantic, he took off for Ascension Island (small speck in the Atlantic, even on a good day) with seven to eight hours of flight time ahead of him, celestial navigation/dead reckoning to guide him and a gross weight (illegally) of over 33,000lbs at take off. Slow climb, yes, but he made it to Ascension for fuel - just as well, really, as he had none left by then. Then he had a cup of tea and, without sleeping, flew another seven hours to Africa.Still hard done by? Choose your configuration accordingly!Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP FleetDC-3 Airwayshttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
