July 14, 200421 yr Hi All,For easier use while in the VC? I'm talking about the default panel here.If you like flying in the Virtual Cockpit but keep finding that the Yoke is blocking the way of you seeing and/or turning the VOR1/ADF dials and slightly blocking your view to the DME how would you like to have them on one of the pop-up windows? Namely the Electrical/Radio Overhead pop-up. I think it's the best option because you can see the results of tuning the radio immediately and dial in your VOR/ADF bearings all right on one pop-up. I like having the yoke there as it realistic to have it and adds to the immersion factor. But I have found it that it is in the way of being able to dial the VOR1 and ADF. At least while sitting in the position I normally like to stay in. This results in either me having to move pretty far forward, or revert back to the 2D Panel in order to turn these dials. And they are hard to see in the position they are down in the VC! I actually added four gauges/indicators, VOR1, DME, ADF, and VOR2.Well, if there is some interest in knowing how to add these to your Overhead pop-up window so that the VC becomes much more atractive to remain in, IMO, then just let me know and I will happily post the very small edit you can do to your panel.cfg file to make it so! I just ask for this because I am a little curious if anyone feels the same way I do about that danged, but realistic, Yoke! Don't get me wrong, I meant what I said about liking it there. :)I am also considering trying to see if I can make a pop-up window that has the radio dials and the four gauges but everything would be 'see-through' except the gauges. This would be so you could have them as a pop-up that doesn't block quite so much of your visibilty as the Overhead does. I am no expert in this area but I think it might not be too hard to do. I wouldn't know until I tried. What do you think of this idea? Does it sound even better? If so, then perhaps I should try and develop this pop-up before posting any panel config edit. And I would be like to know that posting such edits are ok with Bill and Jan. ;)Penny for your thoughts.Cheers,Jim
July 15, 200421 yr Hi,I thought maybe a few screenshots would pique your interest. I added a couple more gauges to it that I thought would come in handy too. ;-)Jimhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/84241.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/84242.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/84243.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/84244.jpg
July 15, 200421 yr Commercial Member Certainly you may! There is no restriction on posting suggested edits on the forum(s) that will personalize things, like this. I think your idea is clever and will appeal to some folks. There is, on the other hand, as I'm sure you realize, an absolute prohibition against uploading or sharing modified files, except textures for repaints, without written permission from MAAM-SIM. You could not, for instance, upload a panel.cfg with your edits. But you may certainly post instructions here showing the cut and paste additions, or other edits, needed to incorporate your ideas. You do know there is an option to remove the yoke from the VC, don't you? July 16, 200421 yr Hi Bill,Thank you for the reply and letting me know you think my little edit is a good one. The downside to it is it takes away from the immersion factor a little when I pull it up. But I like it quite a bit because I can have those gauges in front of me at anytime and wherever I choose to drag it too. Which means I can be looking and see out the window all the time(I only use a zoom factor of 1.0 at all times).Thnk you for letting me know the Yoke can be removed! I read most of the manual. But I do not remember it all. When it came to remembering something I concentrated on remembering how to start the engines from a cold and dark, hehe. And I tried to ingrain that in my memory be watching the video on the proper procedure several times! ;-) And I started the engines with no problem the first time I tried. Since I have that down I will re-read the manual. But since I made my new Navaids pop-up window I think perhaps I'll just leave the Yoke in there, as I like having it in there!Cheers, :)Jim
