Engines Stall on Climb Out

Featured Replies

I have an odd problem which recurs occasionally and I can't isolate the reason - it may be flying technique but I think I am doing the same thing each time.I am climbing out of the airport on prescribed MP and revs, mixture on fully rich. Suddenly the engines appear to cut out. MP drops to 10, ASI drops almost instantly to 0, revs fall back to 15.The nose pitches down and the engines restart. Airspeed recovers, MP & revs return to original levels.Whole thing then repeats until eventually I just run out of sky!Cut outs seem to occur more frequently at higher MP settings...Any help welcomed....

Maybe something to do with trim settings too - reducing the speed of climb seems to make it easier...

Full rich or emergency rich, John? Remember she is very sensitive to correct mixture, so she won't like being run too rich for long; and you'll need to lean progressively as you climb. At what altitude are you experiencing the problem?Other possible causes:1. Volcanic dust2. Mongolian fuel3. Ducks in the intakesMark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Well - it looks like full rich rather than emergency rich to me. Problem seems to occur at about 1500 ft.I have checked the other causes with particu;ar reference to operating out of Athens airport......(1) Santorini hasn't erupted lately so that seems unlikely.(2) Not Mongolian fuel but could be Ouzo or Retsina in the tank I suppose.(3) No sign of feathers (though after the oil drip otion I wonder how long it will be....:-)I will try working with the mixture controls....ThanksJohn
