April 12, 200719 yr Hi First off I have to congratulate you on a superb product. This is easily the top virtual warbird currently available in FSX, even beats the new Shockwave FSX B-17! The disk is great value for money with all of the extras and I am having great fun flying BT over the UK VFR scenery.Pretty much everything worked straight off for me and I even managed to get all the other skins available to show up in FSX. One thing that has never worked though is the view from the upper turret and the waist guns. The waist guns I cannot get to at all and, although I can crawl to the upper turret using the various CTRL/SHIFT/RETURN/BACKSPACE key combos, when I get there the turret textures are not showing up right and the fuselage and tail are invisible.I can get to the bombardiers nose area by crawling through the ducting and that shows up fine. I cannot seem to get to any of the positions with a single key press however, I have to crawl to all of them. I have tried the hatswitch and Num Pad keys in VC and 2D view and none of the keys take me to any of the other crew station views. Any advice would be much appreciated. My PC specs are: AMD 64 3700+, Nvidia 7900 GT 512mb, 2 Gigs PC 3700 RAM, Windows XP SP2, Audigy 2 ZS sound. Some pics to illustrate the problem.......
April 12, 200719 yr Commercial Member Tell me your name so I can thank you for the handsome praise! You have hit on a pet peeve of mine about FSX. The MS development team, for some reason I still can not fathom, decided to eliminate the panel fixed window capability of the new sim. This means that the photo-real 2D views are a thing of the past. Since this was sort of a trademark for me as a panel designer, I am not a happy camper. So it's not only the waist and upper turret 2D views that are gone, but the seven cockpit views, now replaced by views of the 3D model, as well as my favorite, the bombardier's nose view. As you have noted, you can move through the 3D model to get a view out the top turret, and you can do the same with the nose, but the aircraft aft of the turret compartment wall is not part of the internal 3D model and so can not be accessed. This is also true with the 2D views of the R4D, but at least in that plane the 3D model includes the entire cabin. So, I'm sorry to say I have no advice to give you, except to fly FS2004 if the views are important to you. I have produced a turret view for the upcoming TBM for FS2004, but probably will not bother to go to all the work of producing the other 2D cockpit views since the MS boys have made them a lame duck for FSX and beyond.FSX seems to be furthering the trend of moving away from 2D cockpits altogether, but we are not ready to give up on them at MAAM-SIM. We'll continue to give you both 2D and 3D cockpits, until MS kills it once and for all.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
April 13, 200719 yr Hi Bill Many thanks for your very thorough explanation. The loss of those views is not a major problem for me as there is so much more to enjoy about flying this virtual aircraft. Maybe one day I can try out the real thing in the States or why not bring her over here for the Flying Legends Airshow at Duxford in the UK - you would get a huge welcome !Here are a couple of pics of her flying over the mountains here in North Wales using the Horizon VFR scenery for FSXAll the best Mark Walters
