November 7, 200322 yr Is there a way to add to Orbiter's star database? Or is there already a star addon for Orbiter? I really like the abundance of stars in Celestia and would like to have something similar in Orbiter, if there's a way to do it.Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums ModeratorRenegade/Seawolf Design Group (RSDG)

http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/logo75t.gifBush Flying Unlimited"At home in the wild"Looking for adventure? November 9, 200322 yr Author Thanks Don. I've already cranked it beyond the 16000 that the docs say are available. Is there a way to add more to the database?Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums ModeratorRenegade/Seawolf Design Group (RSDG)
November 28, 200322 yr Hi Peter,While I haven't seen any good star database addons for Orbiter, you mention Celestia. If you aren't aware, there is an addon for Celestia that includes both Hipparcos and the Tycho catalogs (the All-Sky Compiled Catalogue):2,072,873 total stars--117,053 HIP stars1,944,131 TYC stars11,688 Companion starsThere is also a cut down version if your system can't handle the above that includes:1,016,385 total stars--117,053 HIP stars887,643 TYC stars11,688 Companion starsYou can grab them here if you haven't yet:http://perso.wanadoo.fr/celestia.stars/I too would love to see a similar addon for Orbiter, but since Celestia is more oriented for astronomy buffs/dreamers, running the two side by side is the next best thing.Take care,Elrond
November 29, 200322 yr Author Thanks Elrond. In fact, those are the databases that got me started at looking for more stars for Orbiter. I'm currently using the 2.0A database for Celestia. It appears that there are 2.1 versions of the A and C databases now.Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums ModeratorRenegade/Seawolf Design Group (RSDG)
