My new Dell computer?

Featured Replies

It is a Dell 8300 with the following stuff. 3Ghz FSB-XT PRO-1G memory-120 on the HD and the ATI Radeon XT256 Graphics card. After firing it up I had a screen that said the picture couldn't be drawn. I got through that and after installing the other stuff [printer&joystick] I got a blank screen on the first start up. I turned it off and upon starting, it looked normal.I installed the FS9 and when going from the flight selection screen to Megs field the screen flickered. When loading the scenery a pop up said it was trying to load scenery that wasn't there. I got through that and it flew great with no flickering or pauses. The distant scenery flickers but up close it is good. About the fourth time I started the computer it crashed. I called Dell and they installed a new driver for the Graphics. When looking in the drivers there were three checked. Maybe all three were fighting each othert, I don't know. Anyway, now it won't run FS9 at all. Even after a fresh install. Dell is sending CDs to put the computer back to factory specs. Should I hang in there or ship it back to Dell? Could I have a bad Graphics card? OR what! You guys are good and I thank you in advance for your input. Thanks,RLJR

UPDATEThe system was set back to factory specs and I had the same problem. The Graphics card has been reinstalled 3 times. The driver for it even more times. Now I am awaiting a new 9800XT card. The Dell test on the card showed that it failed. If this doesn't fix the problem I will probably send the computer back to Dell! I will post the results as they unfold.

Well if the Dell test's on the card showed it failed, then the card if faulty.

I have finally got the info switched from the old computer to the new one. Yes it is working just fine with the new graphics card. Dell came through for me and got the computer up and running. I made a call to Microsoft about the Flight Sim and they stepped me through some settings Dell had left out. They were a big help. I now am seeing frame rates above 40. I have more tweeks to do, but I am happy with what I am seeing. Note the user name change. I changed servers also.RGL:-)
