New video card questions...

Featured Replies

Im going to upgrade my video card and I need a little help with making the call.I have a P4 2.4 with 1.5mb & a GeForce 4 Ti4400 128mb.I am going to use the old video card in my wife

HiThe Ultra will give a speed boost when in comparison to the standard card with extra memory. I'm not sure any current games can take full advantage of the extra 128mb yet, however in the future 256mb may be required for optimum performance. If I had to chose I would go for the Ultra, by the time extra memory requirements start to handicap performance, the performance of the card will be that low that any sensible amount of overclooking couldn't rescue it. At that point you will need a new card anyway.Unless you intend to do any 3d graphics work?Simon.

nVidia and FS 2004 don

I have had excellent performance with my Nvidia cards and flight sim. Regardless some of the other programs I use do not play well with ATI cards and the reality is that MSFS is not that important to me (for example Battlefield Vietnam is reported to have a whole bunch of display issues with Radeon Cards). Also from what I have read Nvidia chipsets tend to be more stable (though that is probably a question of drivers.)Taking away the Nvidia vs. ATI. What I am really wondering about is would doubling the card memory be more beneficial than having the absolute fastest card possible.

Well about drivers. ATI video cards are knowned to be more stable then nVidia video cards. And Battlefield vietnam is a buggy game. It has issues with every video card on the market. It will be fixed though for both nVidia and ATI so don

"Doubling your system RAM would be a much better upgrade."Don't think I want to jump from 1.5GB to 3.0GB of system Ram! :)Also BF Vietnam runs with zero issues using my old GeForce 4 Ti 4400 128mb. Thanks for the info reguarding video card ram. That is what I was starting to think.

Sorry I looked at a sig showing 2x256 while writing this ;) I am talking about the FX drivers. The Geforce 4 drivers are of course as well as the 9700 PRO:s rock solid by now. It really helps too that Geforce 4 is only dx 8 and not dx 9. It don

The BFV problems are totally DICE/EA's - has nothing to do with ATI - BF1942 works flawlessly on my 9800, load up BFV though and it's a mess - BFV should have been delayed by at 3 or 4 months, there's so many bugs - the ping sort doesn't even work!
