February 20, 200422 yr I already posted this elsewere ( http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...ID21/12750.html ) but thought it might find interest in this forum, too:I have a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (Atlantis) card. In my constant battle for better framerates I tweaked and renamed and what have you, but I only accidently stumbled across the tab in DirectX-3D-settings where you set your AGP speed (simple didn
February 20, 200422 yr Hi hopper,Is this only Athlon boards, do you know? Thanks,Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
February 20, 200422 yr "Is this only Athlon boards"........I think it must be (AMD). Mine is Intel based and I have never encountered this problem following numerous graphic driver updates.Mike
February 20, 200422 yr Bruce,as far as I understood from various posts in hardware-problem forums, it is basically VIA chipset related, and happens with both Intel and AMD boards (and sometimes even with Intel chipsets). You can easily check whether you
February 22, 200422 yr I have had a number of replies at other forums, so just that there is no misunderstanding, I will once again point out here, too, what the problem is and how one might be able to solve it: The problem is that although you might think that you have enabled AGP, AGP is actually not functional, and your graphics card does not run in AGP mode. This frequently happens with ATI cards, but as it turned out, other cards might encounter the same problem at times. To clarify (for ATI cards):1. What ATI SmartGart does is a different thing to what your chipset drivers etc. are doing. Don
February 22, 200422 yr Hemmm...I'm an ATI Radeon 9600 pro owner too, and I'm really interested in what you wrote but I'm all but a specialist when it comes to computer...so I have a few questions:-How can I access my directX settings ?-how do I know which chipset runs my motherboard ?-how do I update it ?Thanks !
February 22, 200422 yr Clement,-How can I access my directX settings ?1. On your desktop, click "start", then "run"2. In the dialogue, type "dxdiag", and then click "ok"3. After dxdiag has started, wait some seconds until it has gathered all necessary information, then enter the "display" tab (3rd from the left)4. Check AGP (last item on the screen): It should say "activated" or something similar. If it is greyed out, not activated etc., and you know you have an AGP-capable board and graphics adapter (you should have, if your PC is less than 3 years old), this is the first indication that something is not the way it should be.-how do I know which chipset runs my motherboard ?1. Take a close look at your monitor screens *immediately* after you
May 4, 200422 yr Ok so I have the same exact problem, the thing is that i updated my ati driver and the bios for my mother board Intel (Essex) Pentium 4 - 2.0 GHz (400MHz)And i still dont get the option in the bios to Change AGP settings. Is there another way arround this? im really frustrated.Gabriel
May 5, 200422 yr I just ran the dxdiag on my system which has an ASUS P4P800 motherboard and an ATI 9800 Pro. The first time I ran the test, it stopped several times. It detected the display (AGP) problems and gave me a box to "Bypass" the test. I said yes to the boxes and it showed the AGP as grayed out or not available. My system seems to be running fairly well in FS2004 as my frame rates can go into the triple digits in sparse areas of the country. If I was not getting the X8 data transfers I do not think this would be possible. I decided to run the test again but this time I selected "No" in the boxes that said "Do you want to skip these tests". Guess what, it appears that the AGP is working just fine and is "Activated.Maybe instead of reloading drivers, we should just take another look at the test/settings and see if they are set correctly.TerryPS: The reason I get fairly high frame rates is that I do "Not" use the "Autogen" in FS2004. I think it is rather hooky and would rather see the scenery that is "Really" out there instead of random stuff that just draws extra CPU resources.PPS: I still get micro type pauses even with high frame rates as I believe FS2004 and all of the others were "Not" made to handle aircraft jet aircraft speeds. When I fly the Piper Cub or the Cessna 172, I hardly ever see pauses.
May 27, 200422 yr Ran dxdiag and agp is turned off and it's not on in smartgart either. I've just upgraded to the latest ati drivers. Are the bios drivers the same as the chipset drivers? I have an ASUS p4pe mb with an intel 2.5ghz cpu. I've gone to the intel site but not sure what I should be downloading. Has anyone upgraded this board, and can you point me to the file? Thx!billg
