July 3, 200421 yr I currently have 2 Maxtor ATA drives in my machine but I am running out of disk space. My board is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe version which has provision for two SATA drives. My question is if I purchase a new SATA drive can I still run one or both of my ATA drives? The details in the manual don't say anything on running HDD's on both SATA and ATA.ThanksPhil Asus Maximus Hero XI , i7-8086, 16 Gb RAM, nVidia GTX 1080 ti
July 3, 200421 yr Yep, you can combine SATA and ATA on the A7N8X. You'll need to install the drivers for your new SATA drive onto a floppy disc before installation, and then insert that disc when prompted during the Windows installation (you should plan on putting Windows on the SATA drive). I also recommend that you remove the existing ATA drives while installing the new SATA (they can easily be added back into the system once the SATA and Windows install in complete).Greg
