Error message MS shutting down fs9

Featured Replies

Well I've finally got the dreaded " Flight Simulator 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close". Of course I am never told what the error is. Anyone have ideas? Was working fine until I loaded the new DC3 from MAAM. Maybe I'll uninstall it and see if that clears it up. Still would like to hear from anyone else that had (has) the same problem and what was done to fix it. Right now ilovetofly has been grounded!!!;(

Detail, details... what OS, hardware specs, drivers, etc.Greg

Here are the specsOS is XP Provideo= ATI Radeon 9200 w/ 256mgProccessor= Pentium 2.4Motherboard= ECS Elitegroup P4 memory= 1g OZC 3200 DDRCH Virtual Pilot Pro yoke (gameport connection)CH Pro pedals (gameport connection)Just downloaded FSUIPC 3.30 I'm not sure about drivers, etc. I haven't loaded anything new and as I mentioned, was working until yesterday when the sim would just freeze up. Now it won't load. Reinstall necessary? What about my add-ins, etc., will they be lost upon removal? So many questions. Thanks for any help.Jim

XP will tell you what .dll caused a crash. Try it again, and when you get that loverly message, check to see what .dll is behind the mystery (can't remember what button to push to get details of the crash, but it's on the error message screen).Greg

Greg, Message screen did not show what or who the culprit is. The details button just lists an innumerable amount of files. I have no idea on how to determine which one it is.

Can you take a screen shot of that page and it's details? Post it here... it would be very helpful.Greg

I tried that but the file is too big for the allowable mb size to be posted on this board (245). Maybe I can eleiminate the opening page to reduce the file size. Keep tuned and thanks for the help.

Interesting in that I wa able to launch fs9 again. I went to the fs9 cfg file and in the line "show opening screen" I changed the number '1' to '0' and it launched. Before, it would load to the point where in said "loading weather" and then after a few seconds, that dreaded shutting down window. Later today (after work) I'll run the sim to see if everything else is ok.

Tried fs9 again and it loaded fine. However, I located the problem and it is in the weather file. When I tried to use 'real weather' the error message appeared shutting down Flight Simulator 9.0. So it seems I have a corrupted file here. Any suggestions on how to fix it?Thanks,Jim

Fixed the issue. I had the "clouds" setting on 'detailed clouds' instead of simple clouds and this was causing a conflict with an add-on for cloud rendering. I still don't know if I'll have lock-up problems til I do a longer flight. Thanks for your efforts.
