August 19, 200421 yr Hello everyone. :)I'm running 2K4 on an AMD 64 3500+ w/an ATi Radeon x800 Pro 256, 1024 of PC3200 DDR RAM, Windows XP, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 on an Abit AV8K8t800 mobo with latest drivers.I've tried just about all these tweaks I can find and NOTHING will get me above 12 FPS in VC. I've lowered the setting sliders all the way down on ever panel. No FPS improvment. I've maxxed them, same FPS. I have unlocked the FPS slider, no improvment. :( I think I have a pretty respectable rig - I shouldn't be running this slow!!!If I go to chase view, I can get in the low 30s. Looking straight down on the plane or straight up with no clouds. If I zoom in on the plane from spot view, I can get 35 FPS. What the hell is going on??I just purchased Flight 1's Cessna 421C and I wanna fly the thing in a beautiful looking FS2K4 with good frames! -sigh- Off to tweak some more... Thanks for your help guys! :)Jordan
August 19, 200421 yr Just curious since I will be getting practically identical system within days.Did you build it yourself or did you purchase the whole thing ?Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
August 19, 200421 yr That seems very low. I'm getting better performance on my AMD 3200+ single channel. Please run the dxdiag diagnostic and also look at the ATI smartgart tab, then inform us of the results so we can be sure your AGP drivers are working properly. To run the directx diagnostic, press Start, Run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let the diagnostic stabilize, check the directx version, 9.0b or 9.0c recommended. Select the display tab to ensure directdraw, direct3d, and agp accelerations are enabled. The ATI smartgart tab (in the advanced section of display properties) should show that AGP accel. is enabled (e.g., 8x).
August 19, 200421 yr Also check out Topic #2644 posted by Kittie, who has a similar system and is getting acceptable results:---------------------------------This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. Raptor drives in Raid256 X800 proWindow xp homeAntec True power 550wThermaltake Premier V5000A caseAnd they are thowing in a blue glow stick thing to make it look pretty. Oh they put another glow stick on top now too. It's like a night light in my computer room. Well I finally received my new computer on Friday 13th (scary) . After a few problems I have it up and running with FS on it. The system without any tweaks is getting around 50-70fps with all the sliders maxed and anti Allis on (screen is 1280 - 1040 or something close to that) Now it's time to tweak the machine and get more speed! I do have one question. What is best to run; Open GL or Direct X?I had to get the X800 pro, as there are no X800 XT's in Canada yet. They will get one for me as soon as they are out. I didn't want to wait for my system until September.Well off I go to fly again.Meow
August 19, 200421 yr Michal, I built it myself. Works great for all the other games - Doom3 runs in the high 30s on 16X12X32 with Ultra High quality textures.fs3tofs9, I agree it's low! I was getting better frames on my P4 2.4 512RDRAM and a Ti4600. :| I have DX 9.0c - 4.09.0000.0904 Interesting though - it says that AGP Texture Accelleration is not available. DirecDraw and 3D accelleration are enabled. With SmartGart, I'm showing that AGP Speed is currently off... I just put it on 8X and am going to see if that helps...I'm off to reboot. -crosses fingers-
August 19, 200421 yr I recommend you re-install the chipset drivers, and then DirectX, and then video drivers.Another thing to check is the Device Manager. Specifically the chipset drivers. The Driver version should be shown as "VIA" not "Microsoft".Greg
August 19, 200421 yr hehehe... Well, here's what happened. I tried those settings and couldn't get those options to stay, so I checked out the VIA drivers. Guess I hadn't installed them in the first place. LOLNow I'm flying in the Flight 1 Cessna 421C @ 1280X1024X32 with sliders near the max on all settings and I'm getting 28+ in VC with Major Thunderstorm and up to 70 in Spot view.lol Boy I feel like an ####. lol Thanks everyone!!!!!!! S!
August 19, 200421 yr :-lolEveryone screw's up now and then, you just gotta make sure you have the VIA drivers or else your doomed :-lol
August 19, 200421 yr Well, being the first puter I've built, I guess of all the things to forget that's definately one of the easier to remedy. :D
August 20, 200421 yr If that's your first build--- and the only problem you have--- then you dun real good!Congrats,Greg
August 20, 200421 yr Well, if you consider buying my CPU off Newegg for $497.00 and then browsing the site 1 1/2 weeks later and finding the same chip for $352.00 as a mistake, then I guess I made two. -cries- lolol
August 20, 200421 yr >hehehe... Well, here's what happened. >>I tried those settings and couldn't get those options to stay,>so I checked out the VIA drivers. I also had a yellow PCI management bus flag in device manager. Reistalling the intel chipset drivers cured the problem. Nearly tripled my frame rates, and I'm using just a 8x fx-5200 card. I've been seeing max rates near 60-65 at high alt's.. Probably average 20-30 most of the time. Only the largest most congested airports or ultra thick clouds drop it to the "10" range. And even then, it actually seems fairly smooth. I run the settings about the same as you. scenery and autogen maxed. Clouds all 3d and about 1/2 slider range. 1078x768 is my usual res. I nearly wet myself when I saw the difference in frame rates. Also my sound stuttering with ATC is history too...:) And that funky yellow PCI bus flag too... MK Mark Keith
August 20, 200421 yr Found out that I can bump the res up to 16X12X32 and not lose a single frame! hehehehe Looks pretty dang good! Did a flight from Miami Intl. to Guantanamo Bay. About 2-3 seperate storms on the way. Lots of lightning - one of 'em had some pretty serious turbulence - I'm glad they approved my req. to move to FL 200. :DI never even installed them. LOL I had the CD and I installed the Network drivers, the USB 2.0 drivers, everything. For some reason I must have gotten side-tracked and forgotten to install the VIA 3 in 1 drivers on the CD too. lolEDIT: Just tried Doom 3 - put it on 16X12, 4X AA, Ultra High quality Textures... Now I'm running in the high 50s(!!!) instead of the 30s!! w00t! Note to self - VIA drivers are important... VIA drivers are important... VIA drivers are important...
August 20, 200421 yr What are the VIA drivers and how do I make sure the right ones or any are installed?huggsKittiex:)~ This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. August 20, 200421 yr Kittie, I'm currently using the drivers that came on the CD that came with the motherboard. The CD I'm talking about has the User's Manual, Drivers, Acrobat Reader 5.0 and the ABIT utilities. What I did is put everything in the case, hook everything up and (unfortunately) reformat the HDD and reinstall Windows XP as I'm using a VERY different system than before. After Windows installed, I installed the stuff on the CD (minus the VIA drivers - lol, shoulda done those first!) and the rest of the usual stuff - sound drivers, video drivers, etc. If the CD is anything to go by, it contains the VIA 1.45M drivers. Not sure if it's manufacturer specific (dunno if yours will be diff as it's an ASUS), but doubt it. After that, you should be good to go. :) Good luck!
