ATI Radeon 9800XT

Featured Replies

I have just purchased an ATI Radeon 9800XT (256MB) and I tested FS2004 with it. I was quite disapointed by the performance, compared to the GeForce4 I had before. My configuration:Pentium 4 2.8 GHz HTAsus P4P800 Deluxe motherboardRAM 2GBCatalyst drivers version 4.8LCD screen (1280x1024)If some of you have a similar configuration, I am very interested in your feedback. I can't get more than 30 fps with FS2004.One more thing:In the drivers option, in the SMARTGART tab, it appears that AGP and Fast Write are Off. They are greyed so I can't turn them on. I tried to configure my motherboard, which support AGP 8X, but I found nothing.Any info is greatly welcome.Eric

Hi Eric,Sounds like your chipset drivers are borked. See my post #5 in this thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=2718&page=Also, did you do a thorough cleaning of the nVidia stuff from your system? This is a handy tool for cleanup: http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/ Follow the instructions in the Readme explicitly, and it will do a good job for you.Hope this helps,Greg

Thanks for your help !!It appears that the problem I have is the same as the problem you have already helped to solve.I thought about this yesterday, I looked at the CD provided with my motherboard and I couldn't find the chipset drivers. Do you know where I cna find them? Do you know where I can download them on the web? Thanks again.Eric

Thanks again for your fast reply !!I'm not sure I understand... The URL you gave me is dedicated to the BIOS update, and not to chipset drivers. Does it mean I also have to update the BIOS?My Asus motherborad has an Intel 865PE chipset, so do you think this URL should be better:http://www.intel.com/design/software/drive...latform/inf.htm(it includes an update for many Intel chipsets)Eric

Hmmm... that's not the page I linked to. Just in case it won't work, go to that page and place your cursor over "Motherboard" in the lower left corner. A menu will then pop up, click on "Socket 478".Greg

Eric:The latest drivers for your ATI video card are at the ATI site. Click on drivers and software.Do download and use Drive Cleaner before the installation of the new catalyst drivers.http://www.ati.com/Good luck:RTH

Many thanks to everybody for your help !!!!I have re-installed my chipset drivers, re-installed the ATI drivers, and upgraded to DirectX 9.0c. It now works PERFECT !!I have around 40 FPS constantly, which is good. The only problem I noticed is that when you have a big AI traffic database, it impacts the FPS even if no aircraft is visible around (I have MyTraffic2004). For high FPS, set traffic to 0% or use the default traffic (I have created a new post about this).Eric
