Installed an NVidia 6800GT yesterday......

I replaced my 128Mg ATI 9800Pro card, and so far..........I'm not impressed. I get "flashing" when going into FS9, and occasionally in the sim. The scenery looks somewhat blurry, or at least "not as sharp" as the ATI. Frames are OK...a little more than the 9800, but not so noticeable as to the smoothness. I've tweaked and tweaked AA and AF, but no real improvement yet.The only reason I went to NVidia was because I bought an X800 Pro ATI card a few days back, but returned it because after install, I couldn't bring Windows up. ATI thought my BIOS (up to date) may be untested and incompatible with the X800. I think it was just a defective card. I'm using a Dell 8250 with 2.9gig Pentium4, and 1024 Ram. My Bios version is A04. I think the X800Pro should work. What do you think? Should I exchange the 6800GT again, and try another X800Pro. Best Buy accepts exchanges for a certain period of time, and I've only had the card 1 day. Thanks,

The X800 is not a proven product yet. I would have bought the 9800XT 256mb card as your drivers would have been compatible and it's a video card with established useability with FS9 and great specs.

Are you sure you removed all traces of the old card drivers? Driver Cleaner 3.0 in safe mode or whatnot? If you have any files marked nv*.dll left on the drive then I'd suggest you look at doing a proper `purge`! And postingg in the correct hardware forum wouuld also be a good idea!Allcott

"The X800 is not a proven product yet."?????It's no less proven than the 6800 cards from nVidia. Both will show improvement in this sim... mostly in IQ.I agree with Allcott, Stan. I recommend DriverCleaner to get ALL drivers off your system. Use it in SafeMode, and use the CAB Cleaner as well (it takes a few minutes to do it's thing). And I don't think your BIOS had anything to do with the X 800Pro. What do these techs do... sit around during lunch hour and breaks contriving some of this BS?? :-hmmm Good luck,Greg

Hi, I seem to have the same problem with my geforce 6800 gt oc. I am runnning 61.45 drivers and aa x2 with an LCD and seem to be flashing when the sim starts loading. I have tried a couple of different drivers with no luck. I hope to see a response from another user with this card. The sim seems to be ok after loading but it drives me crazy during the load. What resolution are you running by the way?

Blurrines could be caused by the flight simulators own anti-aliasign toggle, which should never ever be used, even if you want to use AA (toggle it on from graphic card drivers, instead of the game)the game's anti-aliasign toggle is software based and has nothign to do with the hardware, thats why it sucks.Causes alot of blurriness too, since it's not a real AA.

I agree with you on the ATI Tech's evaluation of the card. I'm sure another card will work. I'll just have to see if I go that way. I don't use AA in the sim. However, the blurries and the "Water" are problems. The Water with the ATI card was moving and realistic. Haven't seen that yet with the NVidia. I'm going to tweak through the weekend, and then make a decision on whether to KEEP the NVidia or go get another ATI card.ps. I used ATI's "uninstaller program" which supposedly removes ALL traces of ATI stuff.

"I used ATI's "uninstaller program" which supposedly removes ALL traces of ATI stuff."Ahhh, I NEVER trust anybody's claim that their uninstaller will remove everything. If you haven't worked with DriverCleaner it's very easy to use. A quick install and then boot into Windows Safe Mode. A few mouseclicks and you're done. Just be sure to use the CAB Cleaner too (not necessaery, but would be wise for you to do since you're having problems).http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/Important to follow the directions in the ReadMe in order to get your system clean. Clean both ATI and nVidia drivers (just to purge the system for a fresh indtall of the nVidia drivers once you reboot back into Windows).Hope this helps,Greg

i don't have any of the problems with flickering or mediocre performance. I'm using the 61.77 drivers. If you read the driver release notes, nvidia specifically mentions the 6800 flickering in fs2004 with older drivers, so make sure you are up-to-date.here are my specs, settings, and performance. since you weren't getting your x800 pro to work and now you're having problems with your 6800gt, maybe you need to start looking inward instead of outward. maybe you got 2 bunk cards in a row, but perhaps it's more likely that you need to figure out what's wrong with your setup/installation? To start, fully uninstall all gfx drivers, restart, then install the 61.77 drivers from nvidia, restart. You're running at 2.9ghz? I'm guess you're overclocking to get that? What power supply does your system have? How's your case cooling?

Interesting. My config says 40! What's the effect of going all the way to 400? Pardon my ignorance on this.

raising the texture bandwidth in the fs9.cfg file gets rid of most people's blurries. i actually reduced my bandwidth to about 300 or 350 from the 400 i had it at. the default is set conservatively (60 i think), but you can raise it to different levels depending on how powerful your system is. if you set it up too high, the sim will shudder a little and pause while textures load, i.e. flight will not be as smooth, regardless of what the fps counter says.

Well my 6800 ULTRA runs fine with the 61.77 drivers. As for the X800 PRO it should work fine with just using the CAT uninstaller utility from ATI:s homepage. Now with your 6800 GT you would may have to clean the registry as well to get rid of all ATI paths that can interfere. Me I reformatted my system and everything since I know what a hazzle it can be to trouble shoot otherwise. But X800:s is surely a proven product. It
