September 7, 200421 yr I currently run FS9 on a 19" ViewSonic A90 and even though I am pleased with its performance, I have been considering "upgrading" to a 17" LCD for several reasons: takes up less space, uses less electricity, runs cooler. Can anybody share their thoughts on the pros and cons of switching? Thank you.
September 7, 200421 yr I actually switched FROM an LCD 19" back to a Viewsonic 19" A91f+ and like it very much so I boughjt another one and have 2.The terrain from the the LCD was awful, with always quite a bit of light at night. It only renders 16 bit color I think allen
September 7, 200421 yr I think it depends on the quality of the LCD monitor, I have a LG 19" LCD panel, and it is excellent, I infact prefer it to the 22" IIyama CRT I use for CAD at work."The terrain from the the LCD was awful", cant see how the terrain would be different from monitor to monitor"It only renders 16 bit color I think", Hmmmmm, that is not true at all.Dan.
September 7, 200421 yr with LCD's you get what you pay for. cheap ones (which are still fairly expensive) look like garbage (in my opinion, but i'm an audio/visual snob, some people might not notice). also if you play other game's, especially first person shooters, you'll want a low response time of 17ms or less.
September 8, 200421 yr I have a Samsung 193T 19" LCD.-Native resolution is 1280x1024 which is not the standard aspect ratio (like 1024x768, 1600x1200 etc.). This causes 2D panels to look stretched plus some games don't support this resolution making the entire screen look stretched-Slight discolouration in a small area near the right side especially against grey backgrounds.-One dead pixel (red, stuck on) near left side. Not visible during normal operation but with the lights out and flying at night it looks like a bright red LED-Slight lag due to 25ms refresh rate-Colours not as vibrant or accurate as most CRT'sNext time, I will probably get a CRT again unless the LCD technology improves. If the advantages you mentioned (cooler, smaller etc.) are important factors to you, then by all means, get an LCD. Since I started at university this year and live in a dorm room at the moment, it's actually quite nice to have an LCD - it doesn't take up a lot of space and when I need to use the desk for something else I can just push the monitor into the corner against the wall and it takes almost no space at all. Also they're supposed to emit less radiation than CRT's, too. -
