September 10, 200421 yr First some background...(bare with me, this really is a prop pitch problem)I've been flying The Beech Baron 58 in MSFS2004 with a CH Products Flight Sim yoke for a couple of weeks now. Even with elevator sensitivity turned down all the way, good pitch control is very difficult. The slightest movement front or back results in a large change in pitch (immediate 500-1000fpm at cruse speed). Couple that with plastic on plastic friction making it difficult to find the "center" makes holding altitude in turns very hard (Trimmed for level flight, you think you're "centered" going into the turn but are actually slightly forward or back. The yoke stays in place due to static friction. Turning the yoke breaks the static friction and the controller springs suddenly have you climbing or diving). Even holding altitude in level fight is a constant struggle. I recently read a post under "Tips and Tricks" that suggested installing CH Control Manager and adjusting the elevator response curve from linear to something less sensitive near the center position but normal at full forward and full back positions. I did this and the change is astounding! The response feels much more like the real thing and the plane is now quite controllable. I'd hate to go back to the old way of doing things. However...With CH Control Manager 3.0 installed, my prop control no longer adjusts properly to the forward limit. When the simulator starts up, full throtle results in maximum RPMs (about 2700) but make any change in the prop control position at all and the prop speed drops to 2200 RPM. It can be further reduced by pulling back on the control but it can't be increased beyond that. Full forward still results in 2200 RPM. I've tried to recalibrate a number of times both when first starting the simulator and also while in flight but the behavior is the same. I've even tried to fake out the calibration by only moving the prop control to the 80 or 90 percent mark when the calibration utility is expecting it to be full forward. No go.Fast cruise in the Baron has RPMs at 2500 and take-off and climb at 2700. I want my extra 500 RPM back! Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions on how it might be fixed?By the way, throttle and mixture controls appear to work fine. It's only the prop control that has a problem.Any help would be appreciated!
September 11, 200421 yr If you're running a map (as opposed to Direct Mode) in the Control Manager, then FS has made default assignments to the yoke (and to the pedals if you have those). It's a bit confusing at first since, for instance, the default assignments put elevators and ailerons on the toe brakes as well as the yoke itself, and then FS responds to the last one that moved.Anyway, in all probability, your pitch problem is that FS has set the Sensitivity down to zero on you or that you've got both the pitch and the rudder pedals assigned to pitch as a result of the default assignments. First go into the FS Controls Assignment dialog and make sure that you've only got one control assigned to each function. Also, if you've got Pro Pedals, make sure the "Reversed" boxes are checked.Next, find the screen where you set Sensitivity and Null Zone. Set it for "Advanced" in the screens where you have the option so you can set the sensitivities independendently. For the brakes, Null Zone goes full left, Sensitivity goes full right. Actually, for a first shot at it I'd set all the Sensitivities full right. You can trim them back or set them in the Control Manager later.One note. For the Yoke, there are 5 entries, only 3 of which are normally visible in the Sensitivity screen. There are scroll bars next to the list, the pitch and mixture are there, too, but they're out of site.For a little more complete discussion of FS and the CM, drop by my website and look on the "Files" page for the CMFSV110.ZIP file. CH has a knowledge base entry about my problem and they mention that throttle, prop and mixture should all be set to max sensitivity with zero null zones but I could only find the throttle sensitivity adjustment. Now that you've pointed it out, the scroll bar for that section in the dialog box is obvious but I sure never saw it. As you suspected, the prop sensitivity & null zone were not adjusted properly. I set them up as recommended and now everything is working fine!Thanks again for the response
