Leadtek 6800 A400 TDH

Featured Replies

Is the Leadtek 6800 A400 TDH the same as the 6800 Ultra? Is this a good card? Was thinking of getting this card as it is a bit cheaper than the X800pro and I have had questionable experiences with the ATI cards.Does the 6800 have that extra power cord attachment too?allen

the a400 is a 6800GT. my friend got one the other day, looked pretty nice. The difference between the leadtek and many of the other 6800GT's is that the leadtek has an enormous copper heatsink. I haven't seen any direct comparisons on whether this heatsink cools better than the reference (standard) 6800GT heatsinks, but it sure looks like it could. the differences in heatsinks is really no big deal unless you plan on overclocking, as the standard heatsink on the 6800gt works fine.and yes, as with all 6800GT's, you need to connect the card directly to the power supply. it's easy to do though, you don't even need an extra wire from your power supply neccessarily, as the card comes with a two ended plug you can use to splice the connection off your disk drive or something. however you should have a decent power supply.the 6800gt is basically the same card as the 6800Ultra, with the same basic hardware and pipelines, but the 6800gt is clocked slightly lower. The ultra may have a second power connector, but im not sure. If you really wanted to, you could actually overclock the 6800gt slightly and reach stock ultra speeds fairly easily, a lot of people are doing it. the performance difference between the stock GT and the stock ultra is not really that huge, not worth an extra $100 anyway (unless, of course, you just have a bunch of cash to spend).

The A400 is in ULTRA too and perhaps even NonULTRA so make sure you get the right one. I would go fo the GT if you don

very good point. if you look at the leadtek website, "6800 A400 TDH" is actually not the GT or ULTRA, its the "vanilla" 6800 or plain cheap version. You shouldn't be paying more than $300 for it. 6800 GT (A400 GT TDH) is a better card ($400).
