October 28, 200421 yr Presently using an AMD MP1600 cpu with a motherboard that only supports a 133mhz bus speed. Is there a problem if I upgrade the CPU to an MP2600 that has a bus speed of 333mhz. That is will it adapt to the clock speed ok?Yes, should get a new motherboad but not right now $$$Dick Boley @KLBE regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
October 28, 200421 yr I don't know if that works! You certainly can get a higher speed CPU that operates from the 266Mhz buss. Visit www.amd.com select the processor tab, and select the cpu, then have it check the MOBOs.There are different models and I assume different pin-outs.You might also check with the MOBO vendor to see if they have a BIOS update that allows higher speed CPUs.W. October 28, 200421 yr Author According to the mfg's web site the mother board will accomodate a 2600MP/333mhz bus AMD cpu. However, there remains the question - will the max bus speed listed for the cpu adapt to the lower 133mhz speed of the motherboard.Dick Boley @KLBE regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
October 29, 200421 yr Hi Dick, if the mainboard is specified for the CPU, you can stick it. The other issue is your RAM, it will default to 266MHz aka PC2100, if the bios settings are automated (if RAM is 'Controlled By SPD' in bios). So, nothing to worry about. You'ld only not be taking full advantage of the FSB. Nevertheless and please check this first, you might have to update your bios before hand. Hope this helps, good luck and kind regards Jaap
