November 25, 200421 yr I just ordered a new system and "upgraded" to the 800XT PE. It made a big deal out of "PCI Express" but then it occured to me that this meant it was not AGP. Used to be that PCI="bad" and AGP="good". Is that still the case? ThanksDavid
November 25, 200421 yr PCI express is not the same as PCI. PCI Express is a new standard that will eventually replace both PCI and AGP. The 16X PCI express slot for graphics is in fact many times faster that an 8x AGP (however AGP bandwith is currently not a bottlneck, so you wont notice any difference in any existing game).Unless you have a motherboard that has PCI Express you won't be able to use your X800. Motherboards have either AGP or PCI express, never both.-
December 1, 200421 yr be wary of this card i have one recently installed and it makes the planes look like something out of an amiga screenshot,ie blocky, jagged planes.have tried everything to improve it but to no avail
December 2, 200421 yr Saw the forum and im a simialr issue..Will be ordering a new system very soon, a PCI-E card.PCI Express is diff from the AGP. AGP transfers at 8x, while the PCI-E, transfers at 2 times the speed. 16XI have fought with my self for 3 weeks now, trying to decide between the X800 and the GeForce 6800.Both are the top of the line card from 2 diff companys. the ATI suports DX games better, which FS happens to be DX9. Also, the x800 supports OGL, which is more your first person shooters, HL2. BHD etc.. etc..The 6800GT is more fore OGL but also is highly supportive of FS9 and DX games. The card i have finally picked is the 6800. This is the same as AMD vs Intel. I think the performance diff is not much at all. Which i will find out. For instance, i have a good buddy on a P4 2.8 w/ht and the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256, and he runs a blistering 9FPS in the day with sliders maxed. Many people run the 9800 128MB and get high res and high FPS with sliders mainly right. I think it is coming down to a 50/50 decision. You can have this, and it can be terrible, while on the other hand, person b has the same, and loves his which supplys him with a nice 60FPS for example..Same with Intel vs AMDBoth have their advantages. My real good friend just purchased a new P4 3.6, 1GB RAM, and the 6800GT and runs full sliders right and 1600x res and locks at 60. And yes, i have heard bad about the 6800.At this point, i have picked my system and followed my heart with it. As i said, each one has their advantages, but with technology changing so fast, you never know what to expect. :) Chase Barnett
