The problem: Stutters when turning corners in spot view and cockpit view. Intermittent not at regular intervals. My system. P4 2.8 800FSB, 1Gig DDR, ATI9800 Pro, Audigy 2.1) Updated BIOS, Updated video drivers, updated sound card drivers.2) Cleaned up registry based on other tips here. 3) Operate with partitions. XP Pro on 1 partition. Swap files on another, FS on another.4) All drives defragged.5) Latency of all devices is the same at 64.6) AGP Apeture 128 ( I see no difference when changing to 64).7) Computer Associates, Innoculit virus. No difference when turned off.8) Services configures per Black Viper Power User configuration.9) All unnecisary processes terminated. Startup with 23. Reduces to 21 once start FS using autostart.10) Sound card accel - Full. No change when turned off.11) Scenery setup in FS is optimized with Reality XP tweaker but I have since moved many more sliders over to the Right and locked frames at 25. Generally smooth with complex scenery, full AI, complex addons but when turn the corner I get a pause for 1 second while scenery loads although not all the time. I can drive around in circles and in the full 360 degree turn see maybe 1 or 2 pauses. So my question is this: With my setup and tweaks can anything be done or is this just the way it is when you turn the corner and new scenery has to load.

Hi Mark,Thanks for the concise post... it's a breath of fresh air."9) All unnecisary processes terminated. Startup with 23. Reduces to 21 once start FS using autostart."Please post a screenie of your Task Managaer. 21 Services still seems a bit high."10) Sound card accel - Full. No change when turned off."Have you tried setting your acceleration in DriectX to "Basic"? Setting it to the "No Acceleration" position will disable hardware acceleration! Which means the sim has no choice but to handle sound through the software. Not good.A couple other questions... in your FS9.cfg what value have you applied to TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT? Setting this too high will definately cause the stutters during turns. As a test set it back to the default value of 40 and then do some turns to see if the problem persists. Also, have you tested with AI turned off? Might be worthwhile to try just to see if it helps at all. Finally, what motherboard are you using?Regards,GregP.S. You can set your latencies to 32... won't hurt a thing and will open more of the bus for devices when they need more of it.Edited for spelling 'cause this keyboard still hasn't learned what keys I want to hit.

Greg,Thanks for your response.1) Yes I did try several settings in the DirectX Diag - Full, normal, none. Did not notice any difference.2) Texture Bandwidth Mult is set at 40.3) AI off - seems to help a bit but does not totally get rid of the problem.4) Motherboard is Dell (well thats all I get from SiSandra). System is 8300.5) Process screen attached. Tablet is Graphire3 that turns off when FS is running. INO... and Realmon are the virus scan.thanks for the help.

Mark,Are you using the Airport Environment Upgrade pack by any chance? After weeks of experiencing a similar sounding problem, I managed to isolate it down to the AEU. Removed and replaced it with the lower res Express* version to solve the intermittent stutter.*Edited from "MX"

Yes I am. It is the first version that was out for FS2004....I believe version 6. I tried MX but found that frames were just terrible.Mark.

Hi Mark, indeed a great post to perhaps be able to assist with troubleshooting! Have you tried turning off FastWrites? How are your HDs configured? Also, how did you make it to 1GB RAM/how many RAM-modules do you have plugged? Good luck and kind regards Jaap

doh! I think I'm getting the AEU packs mixed up. I should have said I downgraded to the Express version to solve the stuttering.

Fastwrites - Not sure how to check or change this setting.Hard Drives Setup - What do you need to know.1 Gig of Ram - 2 x 512 modules.Mark.

"Fastwrites - Not sure how to check or change this setting."You should have something in your motherboard BIOS to enable/disable FW. Hi again Mark,In looking at some of the stuff running in your Task Manager I have some questions and a major concern. Is Innoculit a subsciption service? It seems to require a number of services running in XP. A service like AVG or Avast is free and not so resoucre hungry.Do you use a Wacom Tablet? If not tablet.exe can be removed from the system start-up and the service disabled. If you need the service are you shutting it down with FSAuotstart for gaming and then restarting after each gaming session?Cftmon.exe is a language translator associated with Word (and possibly other MS products). If you have no need for such a service it can be removed from the Startup and disabled in Services.Wdfmgr.exe is a new driver format associated with Windows Media Player 10. It has no use at this time, but may be required in the near future as more vendors develop software to be utilized in WMP. Safe to set it in "Manual" in Services. Finally, and most importantly, crypserv.exe is part of the Kekonic validation program. It is most often used to afford an end user a limited time software demo. The bad part about it is that it is easily exploited by hackers. I strongly recommend that you perform a HijackThis scan. Feel free to post the scan log here for study (you must install HJT onto your hard drive in order to save a scan log from it). If you don't currently have any software demos that you're considering then you should certainly remove this .exe and any associated software from your system. My goal in all this is to minimize the number of tasks running. Your system looks clean except for those I pointed out above. FYI my system has 14 services running in TM at start-up ( I have SP2 installed... it added 2 additional services to TM).GregEdit: I agree with Turnbull's remarks about EAU 6.0. It;s a great addon but I got terrible stutters with it. Went back to the Express version and all is well for me.

Greg et al, first of all thanks for taking the time to help me out...it is greatly appreciated.I have removed AEU6.0 and replaced with AEU6express (thankfully I backup the original Texture folder). The results have been excellent. No more of the 1 second pauses. In very dense airport scenery with addon aircraft and lots of AI the frames are lower (as I would expect) but that's it, no long pauses. For good measure I uninstalled Creative Associates virus protection and installed AVG Free Edition.I managed to find the Cftmon.exe using hijackthis and deleted it. It was not attached to any program.Cftmon and Wdfmgr don't want to go, as I remove them from startup (using msconfig) they reappear. I have no use for these right now.As for the tablet, yes I use a Wacom tablet for aircraft painting. I have FSAutostart stop it when I fly.Attached is the hijackthis log.

Turnbull made a good call on AEU 6.0. Curious how some folks can use it and others can't. Chris is currently working on AEU 7.0, so hopefully we'll be able to give it a go. Till then I'll stay with the Express version.Ctfmon can be made to go bye-bye following this:In Services disable "Text Services & Speech".Remove cftmon.exe from the start-up list.Reboot.Wdfmgr is the "Windows User Mode Driver Framework" in Services. I run mine set to "Manual" without problems. Can't remember if I had to remove it from the start-up (as was the case with ctfmon).Your HJT log looks clean.Cheers,GregPS The only AVG related service you need running at start-up is the "avgccc.exe". The software will still remind you when updates are available and then you can easily install them (I get 1-4 updates per week... they're really good about them). Also, AVG is the only thing I have in my start-up. Nothing else is allowed (or needed).
