January 6, 200521 yr Greg,I have a 9800Pro 128MB card which I know you just upgraded from. It's used with a P4 3.2Ghz. I run on a 21" LCD monitor with a native refresh rate of 60Hz and at 1600x1200x32. FR locked at 25. What is ideal for the Anti-Aliasing setting ( 2, 4 or 6) as well as the Anisotropic filtering (2,4,8,16)under the custom settings for D3D?Thanks again! Eric
January 6, 200521 yr Hey Eric... how's the PCI Latency thing going?I'm afraid there is no hard and fast answers with regard to AA and AF. It's mostly a matter of personel preference. I recall a recent discusion between myself, Cruachan, and michael where we compared our settings. Three different users, three different cards (9800 Pro, X800 Pro, and my X800 Pro softmodded to XT-PE), and three different opinions as to what we each sought and tuned for. What drivers are you using? With my 9800 Pro modded to XT I ran 4X AA and 8X AF. Cruachan prefers 6X AA with his 9800 Pro. The type of AF is also important to me. With the newer drivers (4.7 and forward) I notice that Performance AF isn't to my liking. My card has the cajones to pull AF Forced, and you might also try Quality to see how it looks to you.Vsync shuld be "On" and set A.I to Normal (especially if you don't Force AF). You can easily run High Quality Texture Pref and Mipmaps.Cheers,Greg

I just d/l the dirver and the old school CP...I dont wanna mess around with the CCC.Interesting about performance over quality settings. I just want a fluid sim first and foremost but a close second being a nice looking airport when I get in. >>Vsync shuld be "On" and set A.I to Normal (especially if you>don't Force AF). You can easily run High Quality Texture Pref>and Mipmaps.Ok, I always thought Vsync should be off. I thought I read somewhere that it made things unstable. Should I set it to App Prefrence or Always On? I use forced settings for both. In regards to AA and AF, I never use App Prefrence. Thanks! Eric
January 6, 200521 yr Author Forgot, (probably going to sound dumb asking this) but what are you referring to when you say A.I to Normal? Eric
January 6, 200521 yr I can't recall if the old CP has a setting for A.I. If not you might give Radlinker a try (Google). It's the tweaker that somes with the Omegas. Read ChrisW's instructions on his site before installing.A.I. refers to Instancing that ATI includes in their drivers. Instancing will tweak A.F. on the fly so that the video card doesn't have to work as hard to get a nice IQ. Their Instancing is optimized for some popular games (FP shooters) and doesn't do alot for this sim. But it will still try to work with MSFS (depends on a number of variables within each game). Better to use it in FS than to completely disable it. Having it enabled costs us nothing.GregEdit: More info on A.I. here
January 6, 200521 yr Author Thanks Greg on that. What about the vsnyc? Should I leave it set to application prefrence or always on? Eric
January 6, 200521 yr "Thanks Greg on that. What about the vsnyc? Should I leave it set to application prefrence or always on?"On. The card's Triple Buffering needs it on to workd properly.Greg
January 6, 200521 yr Author Thanks.By the way, just tried out that PCI Latency tweak. I set everything that had a reading of 192 to 32 but my ATI card and the secondary display controller which I set to 64. I can definitely see a difference when panning around the VC. Much smoother and less jerky. Of course the big test comes tommorow night on a night flight into Fly-Tampa's KSFO with the PMDG 737! But so far, this looks like a winner as far as tweaks go. Eric
January 6, 200521 yr Cool! Glad to hear it's helping. I think you'll be surprised tomorrow night. After a few days with the VC at 64 try both at 32... I doubt you'll see a difference but doing so will free up the bus even more than it is now.Done for now... be well,Greg
