What do you do when textures aren

I get this from time to time. When switching view I either loose textures in the spot view or in the vc view. It loads some and the rest are grey?Have tried the refresh scenery shortcut but doesn

I've had that problem before (some textures load, some are grey) in the external and VC views of the PDMG. Sometimes I just wait it out and eventually all the textures will load. Sometimes cycling through the views ("S") clears up the problem right away. What has really helped me out the most is converting all the 32 bit textures into DXT formats. This was a great suggestion given to me by a well known expert here at avsim. The PMDG is an especially tempting target because the aircraft is 32 bit texture heavy, both externally and internally. After saving the original textures, I convert all the external 32 bit textures go to DXT3. On the big "livery" texture files, I'll also add mip mapping. On the other exterior texture files like the wheels, engines turbine blades, etc., I'll leave out the mip maps. Regading the internal textures, I'll convert them all to DXT1 if I can get away with it. Most I can (e.g., seats, carpet, circuit breaker boards). Some however (mostly in the VC) I use the higher quality and larger DXT3 files. I also skip all the really small miscellaneous, texture files has they're not worth spending the time to tweak. The result is I can substantially reduce the texture size of the PMDG and I definately see it in the sim, where the plane loads the textures almost instantly (I'm using an AMD 64 3200+ and an ATI Radeon Pro 128). The exterior of the airplane also looks sharp. I don't have any problems with mip maps.
