February 19, 200521 yr Could anyone educate this ignorant me..please.I have tried various Resolution settings like 1028 X 768 X 16 or other higher number.. I see a difference for my windows... Everything shrinks and I can see more. But as far as FSim is concerned... I only see the same amount of informtion. I don't see more. So what am I missing. In one of the posts..someone said they have set it for a widescreen monitor.. Does that mean..that they could see more from the left and the right? If thats the case..I would like to get a widescreen.I currently have the nVidea 9800 Ultra 256K card. Can anyone explain this in plain english ..or direct me me to a site that does? Thanks.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 20, 200521 yr Author This is why everyone wants to post at the general thread and not at the hardware thread. very slow response and little participation.Sigh! Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 20, 200521 yr Hi,So you have to wait a few hours. It's not the end of the world. If you are running FS in Windowed Mode then FS takes on the resolution of your desktop. If you are running FS in Fullscreen Mode you need to set the resolution from within FS by going to Alt/Options/Settings/Display and clicking on the Hardware tab.You will not see any more or less information. A 2D panel shows the same in 800X600 as it does in 1600X1200. However, it does look better at 16X12.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
February 20, 200521 yr Hi Manny,I'll try to help.>I have tried various Resolution settings like 1028 X 768 X 16>or other higher number.. I see a difference for my windows...>Everything shrinks and I can see more.>>But as far as FSim is concerned... I only see the same amount>of informtion. I don't see more. So what am I missing.A couple of notes here:1. If you are changing Windows Deskrop resolution (IOW if you are changing the resolution of your video card), then you will only see a change to FS in the windowed mode. If you go to full-screen mode then (and only then) will you see the result of resolution changes you've made to FS under the Options>Setting>Display menu.2. Increasing the resolution of FS does not make anything except text smaller, so you won't (normally) see more scenery on your screen. What you will see is more detail. Most add-on panels have numbers and such that are so small that they are unreadable (blurry) at any resolution below 1024x768. Many need at least 1280x960 to afford comforatable veiwing. Even higher resolutions make the jaggies less noticable, to the extent that AA levels may be reduced or AA turned off.The reason that I say (normally) above leads me to your next question.>>In one of the posts..someone said they have set it for a>widescreen monitor.. Does that mean..that they could see more>from the left and the right?>>If thats the case..I would like to get a widescreen.>Apparently what you assume is correct, A widescreen monitor seems indeed to display a wider field of view. I don't know this for sure because I've not seen one myself. In another thread someone mentions spanning a 4800x1200 image across three standard 1600x1200 monitors. Now that would be quite a sight. Like you, I too would enjoy owning a widesceen or a 3-monitor setup. I hope that this helps. R-
