Joystick Problems

Featured Replies

I have a CH Flight Sim Yoke USB and CH Pedals installed with no problems for winged aircraft. When I fly the Bell Ranger helicopter, I have been using the yoke's throttle and prop control for collective and throttle, and the keyboard arrow keys for cyclic control. I decided to get a joystick hoping it would give me better and more realistic cyclic performance. I installed the USB joystick and it calibarated and tested fine in Windows XP. When I use it in FS, it seems to confuse or conflict with FS9. It works until I hit pause, then when I unpause, it takes a while to return to normal flight, then the joystick doesn't work. I try to unplug and replug, and nothing happens. When I exit FS and check it in Windows, the calibration/test box doesn't work right either. Only when I restart the system does it return to normal. I also tried unplugging the yoke figuring there was too much for FS but it didn't help. It seems to work fine mechanically otherwise, but not in FS. Any ideas on how to get it to work right in FS? Thanks. Tom

Hi Tom,I suggest you try the following:1. Unplug ALL your controllers.2. Reconnect your Yoke and confirm it is correctly recognized by Windows.3. Ditto with the Pedals.4. Unplug the Yoke and connect the Joystick and check the Joystick/Pedals combo is recognized correctly. If not then reinstall the Joystick's drivers and try again.5. Unplug All the controllers.6. Make a copy of FS9.cfg (to preserve any tweaks you may have applied to this file) before deleting it.7. Start up FS9 and it will rebuild FS9.cfg. Adjust your Graphics settings under the Hardware tab and then Exit FS9.8. Connect the Yoke+Pedals and restart FS9. Confirm that both controllers are recognized and working correctly in the sim. Exit FS9.9. Remove the Yoke and plug in the Joystick. Restart FS9 and confirm all is well as in step 8. Exit FS9.10. Open FS9.cfg in Notepad and re-enter any tweaks by referring to your backup copy. DON'T TOUCH the JOYSTICK sections. Save the file as FS9a.cfg.11. Delete FS9.cfg and rename FS9a.cfg to FS9.cfg.12. Defrag to ensure any file fragments are contiguous and you should be good to go.I may be completely wrong about this, but I doubt whether you can have all three controllers connected simultaneously as the Yoke's functions will conflict with the Joystick's. However, you should now be able to have either the Yoke+Pedals OR the Joystick+Pedals operating correctly in the sim. However, if your Joystick is also a CH product it may be you might be able to create a profile in CH Control Manager to utilize features of both the Yoke + Joystick. However, I have little experience with the CH Control Manager utility so am far from being confident on this issue. If it is possible, the resultant profile created would be a combo of the Yoke+Joystick (seen as one device)+Pedals. Perhaps others can comment on this?Mike
