March 20, 200521 yr I have just one giant HD on my new PC. If I want to back up FS2004 and all my add-ons, should I buy an external HD and use that? Must an external HD have an OS loaded onto it just like the regular HD inside my PC?Appreciate any advice, thanks!Jonathan Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
March 20, 200521 yr Your new pc must have enough space to put the hd from your old machine in it. Use it as a slave. I am one who always has two hd's in his machine for such. The newer drives last a long time once they get broken in so you probably don't have any real problem. Only back-up your original files and not software you can reload to make it easy as a clean install every year or so is nice to get rid of the garbage we end up with adding programs, aircraft, scenery and the such. In fact, I am about ready to spend a couple of days doing that. You don't need the OS on the second drive.John

March 20, 200521 yr I have 2 external drives: one firewire, the other USB2. They are very handy and extremely easy to use. Just dump whatever you want to back up.You can use software backup also. But drag and drop is just as easy.Abe
