Windows XP 64 only for OEM!!!

Featured Replies

Read it at www.idg.se if you are familiar with swedish :).anyway it means you have to buy some new hardware to get access to it or a complete new system. Is going to be released in a month but it looks like unless you want to buy new hardware you can

Having to buy hardware in order to get an OEM version of Windows, has been going on for sometime. It just depends on your definition of 'hardware'. Last year, I bought the OEM version of Windows XP from Newegg. The 'hardware' I bought to go along with it was a $.75 soundcard audio cable. Fitz

Yeah but there is retail versions of just about all previous windows op systems. But if that works you can buy whatever hardware there is not much of an issue.

I think a lot of people go for the OEM version, because of the significant difference in price between the retail and OEM version. At least that was my reason. Fitz

Hi folks, xp-64's RTM (release to manufacturing) has happened. MS intends to present it during the WinHEC conference in April. MSDN subscribers can already download it now. There will only be a Japanese and English version. Other languages will be supported through a language interface. General availabiltity is expected towards the end of April. If you have an OEM xp version, some distributors might exchange it for a 64-bit version. Whether they do or not, is up to the individual OEMs. So perhaps check this option prior to any others. And now the drivers..! Good luck and kind regards Jaap
