Why does FS9 not look visually as good as what I see in...

Featured Replies

Hey I wondering if anyone could help me out with this one. I hear a lot of questions/comments about frame rate and performance but little about how FS9 looks visually, as far as smoothness. When I see screen captures from people most of the pictures looks so smooth and real. Whether the frame rate is good or not the screen shots just look real good. My machine however looks kind of rough and just doesn't look anything like what I see on the web. My frame rates right now are anywhere from 13-22 pretty consistently. I have most features enabled to some degree. Detailed clouds, textures, aircraft details. Now mind you that dynamic traffic is set very low and some of the texture options are turned fairly low. But even if I turn them up all that happens is my frame rate goes down a little, but the screen never really looks any better. Anyone have any ideas? :-)Thanks.Hardware:Dell Optiplex GX150PIII 1.2GB384 MB PC 133ATI Radeon 8500 AGP w/128 MB DDRCreative Audigy 70 GB IDE Drive:-)

No problems with framerate here :)The key to smooth looking graphics is to enable FSAA...and to increase sharpness, enable anisotropic filtering. Both however require a high-end videocard to operate smoothly.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/115310.jpg

What is FSAA? Anyway, I did do some research and found that my video card has all kinds of settings that can be adjusted. A couple of which you mentioned. I set these options to MAX video quality instead of performance. I was hesitant to because I thought my framerate would go down. But it was not the case! My frame rate stayed the same but now the aircraft views from spot view look amazing! Thanks for mentioning some of these things. It inspired me to look deeper into it. This machine actually does quite well now. I'm sure not as good as yours but still...now it's quite enjoyable.Thanks.

FSAA is full screen antialiasing. However you can
