Nvidia Drivers...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I tried posting this in the ordinary hardware post but got only one reply...I've been running on the Nvidia 67.03 Forceware drivers for awhile and decided to attempt the 7x.xx series of drivers. I loaded the 71.89 drivers over the older drivers on a freshly formatted HD and games that used to work i.e. flightsim and Star Wars Battlefront now have what I can only descibe as freezes...which eventually end up in me having to "ctrl-alt-del" to close down the app. Funny thing happens as well - when I return to the app after ctrl-alt-del'ing I seem to get it back running... This only happens when using the 71.89 drivers and if I return to the 67.03's everything's cool again...I get better performance in 3DMark benchmarking with the later drivers so I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem and found a fix...Alternatively if someone could give me advice on which drivers to use thar would be much appreciated. Thanks and regards,Rob FAJS

how about staying with your original 67.03 drivers. I've tried using the 71 series and have not had much success with them...guess it depends on the system.Sherm

I am not screwing around with drivers anymore. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, is going to be my motto with video drivers. I updated the drivers on my 6800 Gt when I first got my PC, to the latest version, and the immdediate result was lower frame rates and stuttering. XP.. rollback driver functions, and back to normal.. No more "new drivers" .

You need to completely uninstall the previous drivers before you load a new set. Go to add and remove programs, uninstall, and then reboot. Load the new drivers, and all should be good. There are tools available to do a clean sweep of Nvidia drivers for problems such as yours. Never load any video driver over one another. It just causes problems.Good luck,JD

I uninstalled the old drivers prior to using the latest, and still the new drivers were NG..
