May 23, 200521 yr I am searching on the net for reviews etc, unfortunately all gaming sites only benchmark and review the latest laptops for Doom etc.. not Fs9. So, which laptops do simmers love? Yes, I have heard the new Dell XPS 2 is phenomenal yet it only has a P4M 2.0 gZ processor. What's with that? How can it be any good to compare with all the other laptops that offer P4 3.0+ GZs? Also, I have a P4 3.0 with 1 GIG and Radeon 9800 pro desktop, how would simming on a new laptop that is powerful compare to that? Help! thanks!!
May 24, 200521 yr Hello Peter!I still fly FU3 when in the mood. You guys were WAY ahead of the curve! I hope you are the same 'Peter' that ran that project, or you are by now scratching your head, big time! LOLJust wanted to jump in that I have a ThinkPad T40/Pentium M1.5 Ghz running an ATI 7500 chipset. I run in native 1024x768 on a 14.1 inch screen TFT display. I get on the average (with good cloud cover---AS2004.5) FPS sitting at a VERY respectable---25. So...I can well imagine that XPS notebook bringing in some great rates. I don't think you could go wrong, unless you wish to wait for a mobile TWO core cooker....Two cents...Cheers!Mitch R.
May 25, 200521 yr I've been researching laptops lately. Thinking about buying one. I've come to the conclusion that laptops aren't really the way to go for gaming. Especially flightsims. I'm looking at the Sony S360 with the xbrite techology 13.3". I seen the screen at Bestbuy and it blows everything else away pic quality wise and comes with a 9700Pro video card. Price $1500+. I'm also interested in the Alienware. Good sales going on there now. But thinking about buying the symetra. An intregated video setup and 12.1 screen instead of going all out. Price $1500. Also looked at other custom build no-name machines. Quite skeptical about those at this point. I've learned that PentiumIV and Althons are not the way to go in a laptop. Very short battery life with those processors. Looking to get one with the Pentium M processor. Separate video cards also generate lots of unwanted noise. The Sony says it'll go 4 hours before needing a charge. Same with the Alienware Symetra. I don't want a laptop that I can't run on batteries for at least 3 hours. I seen Dell laptop screens and not impressed at all with their pic quality.
May 26, 200521 yr Check out a thread here on the zd8000 - topics within it are on a wide range of laptops and there's some very good info there. As someone who has used a laptop as their only computer for a few years I can attest for me and some others this works for us. When at home I plug in a 17" lcd monitor. I'm on the road for work for up to half the year so this setup works great. Dave
