CH Rudder pedals

Featured Replies

I just installed the CH Products Pro Rudder pedals, I tried messing with the sensitivity settings, but they are way too sensitive. They are basically unusable. I dont think I have USB 2 on my motherboard, could that be the problem. Thanks

Hi Flyerone,It's easy enough to check the pedal operation. I'm assuming you're using Windows XP and the standard Windows drivers. Open the Control Panel and proceed as if you're going to calibrate the pedals. When you get to the X/Y screen (it shows the toe brake operation) there's a box there labeled "Display Raw Data". Check that box and you'll start to see the numbers that the pedals put out. For the toe brakes, the values should be around 0 when they're released and around 255 when they're fully depressed. Click the "Next" button until you get to the display for the rudders (Z axis). It should be around 128 with the pedals centered and go to 0 when the left pedal is fully forward, 255 when the right pedal is fully forward. If those values are about what you see and they seem to track okay, then the pedals are doing what they should and Sensitivity in FS is about all you've got to work with.Once you've checked the values, I'd cancel the calibration, click the "Settings" tab, and then click the "Reset to Defaults" button. Windows doesn't even try to calibrate the center value on the pedals, which is really what they need, and it apparently tries to treat the toe brakes as centering axes which makes the brakes difficult to get to work. Opinions vary, but IMHO you're better off not calibrating the pedals in Windows. If you are using the Control Manager, then you can run the same check using the Raw Data display in the CH calibration applet. With the Control Manager, you should calibrate. It knows what it's doing with the pedals. The Control Manager will also let you set a response curve, either in a map if you're using one or just by going to the Axis Settings tab in the calibration applet you're using Direct Mode. It might help. Try setting the Gain so that the little graph shows it being more horizontal near center, more vertical near the ends. That gives finer control for small movements around center and can help with the oversensitivity. If you don't get the expected values in the raw data displays, you'll need to talk to CH (or whoever you bought the pedals from) and see about getting them sorted out. Don't try to open them or you'll void the warranty.Hope this helps!Best regards,- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com
