Featured Replies

I saw the other post from January but my environment is different.Radeon 9800SE 128mb, 512mb ram, AMD 2600, ECS MotherboardRadeon/ATI driver 6.14.10.6546 dated 5/3/2005DXDiag shows:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119918.jpgI have BIOS set for 8X and 64mb aperture. All cacheable and shadow settings in BIOS disabled. My previous Nvidia G400MX showed AGP enabled. Tried various aperture values and various cacheable and shadow values Dick Boley @KLBE

Dick,Looks like a chipset driver reinstall would be in order. If the board is an nVidia board and you removed all of the drivers from the previous videocard, you may have mistakenly removed the chipset drivers. They can be found on your motherboard's website.

The download section of the ECS motherboard web site does not mention "chipset" drivers. There are IDE, LAN, Modem, and Sound drivers shown for my board (KT-600). I then reloaded the "stuff" from the CD that came with the board. Re-booted but same thing. Windows did detect that I now had items that required update and took me through updates for the LAN and the Sound. Thus I suspect that the load from the CD worked OK and any driver elements should have been installed. I actually do not remember if AGP was enabled after I installed the Radeon card. It may never have been turned on. Guess that I can re-install the Radeon drivers next. Thanks,Dick Boley @KLBE

Hi Dick, there are some known issues with Via chipset drivers and XP-SP2 (if that's the OS you use?). Pre v.4.55 Via 4in1 driver packages 'overruled' the XP-SP2 AGP drivers. I don't know what you need to do specifically but would recommend going to viaarena.com for more information how to obtain a proper mainboard chipset driver install. Hope this helps, good luck and kind regards Jaap

First thanks to all for the assistance. My problem was Radeon drivers. I was using Catalyst 5.5 which was released in May 2005 so I never thought that there would be another but there was. June 8, 2005 Catalyst version 5.6 was released and that fixed my problem. AGP is now enabled and I have gained about 10fps. Not sure if the improvement was drivers or the now available AGP. Once again thanks.Dick Boley @KLBE
