Dual computers and my video card

Featured Replies

I need some help/advice. I read somewhere a while back how some use two computers to run FS9. One for FS9 itself and another for 3rd party add-ons (e.g., Active Sky, AISmooth). Well, I have my PC and a laptop, both pretty good quality. OK, so how does this work? Does it work? Does it help? Any suggestions or link would be just great. Also, I saw Jim typed somewhere that when installing a new video card one needs to delete the config file. If I delete it, is it recreated automatically? Thanks for any help.

Cameron, I am in the same boat, does anyone out there know how to use two computers to run Fs9??

What you are probably thinking of is WideFS made by Pete Dowson. You can purchase the program if you go to http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html.You can actually first download the program and digest the enclosed documentation - to get it working you have to buy it and register it with the enclosed code.It roughly works like this: the program consists of one server program and one client program. You put the server program (wideserver.dll) in the modules folder of your MSFS installation, i e the main computer you use to fly MSFS. The client program (wideserver.exe together with wideclient.ini) you put preferably in the same folder as the add-on program you want to connect to MSFS.Mind you that the computers has to be connected to each other in a network. To get them connected you first start up MSFS, then wideserver.exe program and finally the add-on program. What wideserver.exe then does is to "listen" for the flightsim on the network and then enable the add-on program to communicate with the flightsim. As far as I know it's really just a selected few add-ons that work with WideFS, like Activesky, Squawkbox 3 and FSCommander so you should check compatibilty with the programs you intend to use first.ON THE OTHER HANDif you are thinking about a program that allows you to have several computers connected each showing a certain view on its dedicated monitor, you are thinking about Wideview. I haven't used this program though so I can't help you out there.

Krister,Thank for the detailed reply. Yes, it looks as though WideFS is what I need. I think I am going to have to start another thread with this in the title to see if this program is worth buying. Thanks again.
