I'd wait for the Radeon 9800 Pro personally.I had problems with all 3 of my Radeons, back to nVidia for me at the moment. I wouldn't bother with the nVidia FX cards. Wait a month or so and go the Radeon 9800 ;)

While the RADEON 9700 is clearly "technically better", ATI experiences can vary from person to person. I've known quite a few people who have loved their ATI cards, and have never had a problem with them. Me, on the other hand, like John have had numerous problems with ATI's GPUs. I've given quite a few of the cards a try, ranging from dinosaur PCI stuff to some of the newer technology, but always find myself coming back to nVidia.So, in the end, it's really just a personal preference. I changed from a GF4Ti4600 to a Radeon 9700Pro a few days ago. The Radeon clearly is the better card. The Radeon's picture quality is much better than the GF4's. I can set AA 4x and AF 8x and have the same fps than I had with the GF4 at FSAA off and AF 4x.But: The GF4Ti handles a 2nd monitor at the DVI output with no change in fps while the Radeon stutters heavily when I run a gauge window on the 2nd monitor.Alex

Seeing as how you guys know alot about the GeForce4 can anyone tell me how to get the water and aircraft reflections to work, and also the grainy texture (mip-mapping?). They don't work when I check the boxes. Incidentally I don't have a Ti4600 but an MX420. Can anyone help me with this please? Thanks

And please tell me why you are posting an unreleated topic in someone elses thread? This is very rude.And, IIRC, the MX420 has a serious problem with reflections. I could be wrong.

Cliff - Do some quick research on your motherboard to see if it has any incompatabilities... in addition to a few mysterious problems, the ATI cards are a little more sensitive to different motherboards.I had one for a day or two, only to discover it wasn't compatable with the particular rev. of my motherboard.If you can wait, 9800... if you need it now 9700, and "compatability" mode would be the nVidia. :) -Greg

May I ask for opinions concerning the pros and cons of using the Radeon 9700 card compared to the GeForce4 Ti4600?Some reviews laud the Radeon whilst others are comvinced that the GeForce card is the best.
