September 30, 200520 yr Do some of you have bought a recent PC equiped with an Intel Dual Core processor?I would like to know if it has an real impact on the Flight Simulator performance. As far as I know, FS is not designed to take advantage of the Dual Core technology (no multi-threading), but I may be wrong here...If it really increases the FPS, I may upgrade my PC to this new technology. Thanks for any info.Eric My Web Site
September 30, 200520 yr Hi Eric,Although it is the wrong forum :-) :That depends. If you are only running FS2004: a dual-core processor will give you even LESS FPS than a single core processor with the same clockfrequency. The second processor is just not used.Goes for both Intel and AMD.So to get the SAME FPS, you have to buy a processor with a higher clockfrequency; ergo: buying a dual-core based system just for the sake of FS2004 is a waste of money at this moment.I've seen a test from someone, where (using FS2004) an "AMD64 X2 3800+" gave the same performance as an "AMD64 3200+".Just speculation: Maybe this one of the reasons why FS10 is "delayed" ? So MS can adapt FS to fully use the benifits of dual core processors (since "performance" has always been one of the major FS issues).Cheers, Rob Barendregt
September 30, 200520 yr I don't have an Intel but I recently upgraded to an AMD dual core 4200+. When you're running other programs in the background it helps but not much. If you're only buying a cpu for FS9 go for an AMD FX55 or upwards. If you intend to use your PC for other things and do a lot of multi tasking go for a dual core. BTW The 4200+ coupled with a 7800GTX graphics card delivers pretty much all the performance in FS9 that you could hope for.
September 30, 200520 yr Well, an AMD 64bit 754 3700+ and an ASUS ATI X800XT Platinum edition does also!!, and a LOT cheaper
