Gameport joystick=frame rate loss?

I have an analog yoke + Thrustmaster rudder pedals, and they are connected to my SB Live card gameport. I see that when I unplug the cable from the gameport, FS9 frame rate increases by about 3-4 fps. Is there a way to avoid 3-4 fps loss when plugging the yoke/pedals in?I have a PIV-3.2GHz, 1GB ram, ATI Radeon Pro 9800-128Mb, Win XP.Thank you

that's true, gameport polling is CPU intensive

Thanks. If I use a gameport to USB adapter will I solve the problem? I know that USB devices don't cause frame rate loss.
