November 5, 200520 yr I currently have a P4 1.8 GHZ and looking to upgrade. I see a computer in the flyer that says it has a AMD Sempron 3100+, does that mean its a 3.1 GHZ. thanks alot. Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
November 5, 200520 yr I have no time to go into details, but you have to know that AMD does not name their processor by their speed. AMD processors use an architecture different than what Intel uses, and their processors are clocked at about 2/3 of Intel's processors, for the same raw power. So, an AMD 3100+ means it's about the equivalent of an Intel at 3,1 GHz.But things are a little bit more complex because there are also different kinds of processors (entry-mid level and high level) that don't achieve the same raw power for the same clock speed. And now, Intel has also renamed their models to not show the clock frequency.Semprons are AMD entry-mid level processors, while Athlon 64 are high level. So, a Sempron 3100+ offers less power than an Athlon 64 3100 (if it existed, because there are actually no 64-3100).And now, there are also double core processors...Eric.
November 5, 200520 yr Author Thank you very much for your replie, I didnt know that AMD does not name their processors by their speed, thats really good to know. Thanks again Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
