November 29, 200520 yr Truth is, it doesn't really bring much, but some mini-fps...Did a little testing today, with the situation of 5 overcast 8/8 cumulus layers (FE clouds, DXT, RenderToTexture ON) and Cessna on the strip. Got max. of 26fps, with lowest 24fps. CPU overclocking (3.4Ghz to 4.0Ghz) seems to have NO impact on the clouds, as AVGfps were the same. But, OCing the GPU brought these 2fps.My guess only is that CPU is only relevant for panels, ground textures etc.So that's it, maybe this can help someone who is upgrading.
November 29, 200520 yr My personal oppinion is that OC is a perspective of the user. If I feel that my system has a bottle neck in the GPU department I may see a jump in frames if I OC my Vid card. On the other hand if the bottle neck is CPU then I can go that route. I have seen both work well but normally I just back myself into another bottle neck. When I overclocked my xp2600 from 1.8mhz to 2.2 I saw a great FPS jump but my TI-4200 was holding me back. I then got a 6800GT and overclocked it to 6800Ultra speeds and my xp2600 was holding me back. I then got a A64 3200 at 2.0 mhz and OC'd to 2600mhz. I get a small boost each time I overclock a component but added all together I have a FX-57 CPU and a 6800 Ultra for the price of a 3200 Venice and a 6800GT. I love overclocking, it is a very addictive habbit though. ________________________________________________________________________________ Jeremy 9800X3D OC'd -30 +200MHZ | 64GB CL30 RAM | RTX 5080 | Windows 11 23H2| Bravo Throttle | Alpha Yoke | CH Pedals | Logitech Radio Panel | SmoothTrack | AAO
November 29, 200520 yr I agree with you, it's a habit of wanting things to go faster, thinking you can push it more and more. It's like tuning the car. But, it's true what you say, bottleneck is always a problem, if there is one! But I don't think that on my system any component could be bottleneck. Not with those specs :-)But now that almost a year has passed, I'd like to get new gen GPU and possibly AMD, since I hear they are better for gaming, although I always had Intel!EDIT: to add, I also have X850 XT PE for the price of XT and also close to FX-57 with my OC. Get watercooling, and I would be over. Awesome!
November 29, 200520 yr Hello,My CPU and vid card are overclocked this gives me a 5 to 10 more FPS.All this depends on the density of the scenery and of the clouds generated with ASV.But I have an average of 24 FPS.
