CH Yoke assignment question....

Featured Replies

Just got my new CH yoke, and was selecting assignments for the various buttons. Couple things:1) The assignment options allows for switching (power) on/off the autopilot. As this would be nice to do without going to the keyboard (especially good for my ES Cirrus in VC as it is 'always on' once you make any selection and must be turned off immeditly prior to landing) I wanted to assign the left red button 'behind' the grip in order to turn it off. I did that in the assignment set-up, but it does not seem to work on the Cirrus or any other aircraft....any idea's?2) The assignment menu also gives an option to assign 'selections' 1,2,3 & 4. I figured 'great, I'll try to assign a couple buttons in order to answer/make contact with ATC' for the simple #1 or #2 choice commads without going to the keyboard. But...does not seem to work that way. If that cannot be done/recognized while ATC window is open, any idea's on how I could do it??ThanksEDIT: OOOP's...mod's this probably should be in the hardaware forum, please move as required.

I don't have the CH yoke but I do use the CH Fighterstick and have assignments on it for AP master and selections 1-4 for ATC, they all work just fine for me. I assign keystrokes in FS then use CH Control Manager to assign the key strokes to those buttons.Bud

well it depends, if you have the buttons set up in CH Control Manager as just Direct X mode joystick buttons, then you should be able to assign those functions through FS assignments by selecting change assignment then clicking the button. If you are using programmed functions (key stroke assignments through CH Control Manager) then you need to match the key assignment assigned in CH Control Manager to the one assigned in FS.Bud

No, I'm not using the Control Manager (I do have it downloaded though). FS seems to have all the functions I desire, and that is where I selected these assignments. It seemed to 'take' within the FS Device assignment window...I saved...went to the aircraft...and 'no go' on the two funtions I mentioned.Everything else worked like a charm.I'm really not into creating maps for this if I do not have to, but will if I do. But again, the choice of these assignments were given in FS, not something I was trying to 'create'.-----------------EDIT/UPDATE: I downloaded the new Control Manager/drivers and got the autopilot to toggle on/off, but still no luck with the selection key function (1&2). Again,,,,I'm simply assigning via FS, not the Control Manager.

You are selecting change assignment in FS then clcicking on the button and it registers?Bud

I tried to program a button on my CH yoke for push to talk on Vatsim for months and months using Ch Control Manager and FS9 control assignments, with zero success. I finally purchased the payware version of FSUIPC and had the push to talk yoke buttom programed in about 5 minutes.

Yep.I had someone else try it on their CH Yoke, and they could not make it work either...strange.I'm using the buttons to reset barometer and heading right now. I guess we got to touch the keyboard sometime ;)

Well Bob, I might just look inti that option. I have the freeware version only. Does Chuck's 'payware' version have a utility you use to do this? Or is it 'automatic' by selecting via FS?Thanks!

The registered version of FSUPIC allows you to take any keypress on your keyboard and assign it to one of the yoke buttons of your choice. so for instance, if pressing the letter F does something in FS9, you can assign the yoke button to press that letter, just as if you were pressing it on your keyboard.

Thanks for the info Bob...I might just have to get a 'payware' version and check this out.As we all should be indebted to Chuck's work over the years, I guess it is a small price to 'pay' ;)
