"0" FPS in FS9!!

Featured Replies

Desperate here in Central Wisconsin, I have a new PC, AMD 3200, 1g memory, GeForce 6800 (256meg of memory), and just loaded my old FS9 (twice). I get 0 fps even using default settings. I loaded CFS2, I get 50+ fps even with most sliders maxed. What's up? Any advice would be appreciated!Arne

Note that I have moved your post. Welcome to the forums--I know it's challenging to deal with a program that doesn't work out of the gate and you want to get the problem solved. But please take an extra second to study the forum rules and place your post in the right forum--that will help get the quickest response. I moved this post where it best belongs.I suspect that FS2004 is not recognizing your new setup, most likely the video card. To help diagnose that issue, please paste the contents of your fs9.cfg here. It will also help others diagnose your problem if you post your O/S, graphics card driver versions and version of DirectX. If you haven't updated your graphics card driver and DirectX to the latest versions, that's the first item you should complete.-John

Yes, something is definately amiss. I finally sold my 6800GT, which will soon be replaced by the X800 I should have bought in the first place for best FS2004, and even my 4M Diamond Viper V330 gives me 6 FPS in software emulation mode. I've heard of low FPS before, but 0 FPS takes the cake! First sugestion from me is to ensure latest drivers are downloaded and installed (81.85?).Gary

I will be sure to post in the right spot in the future. To make a long story short, I updated the graphics driver to version 81.95, and also updated DirectX. Both to no avail, at least far as the mysterious and frightening "0" FPS were concerned! Well, I contacted my son, who built the new machine for me, and he and a buddy did a search and found someone with the identical (almost) problem on the "Fly Away" website. One of the posts suggested that the problem may be my old MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback Pro joystick. Sure enough, I disabled the feedback and FS9 immediately responded with 20fps and most sliders near max. The post is at http://flyawaysimulation.com/postx9608-0-0.htmlThanks to all, I can begin tweaking again from a working sim!Arne

Of course the joystick. When my throttle is on idle sometimes my frames drop to low figures, but when the plane is not on idle frames go back up. Strainge eh.

There is STILL a need to make a simple change to the FS9.cfg to force FS to `see` the new card. Just scan through the forum for details.Allcott
