January 16, 200620 yr Chances are that your chipset drivers went FUBAR after changing cards. Tools you'll need to fix the problem:Latest chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website.DirectX 9.0cDriverCleaner Pro (seems you already have that)Follow these steps for a thorough system cleaning and prep for nVidia video driver install (you may want to print this to hardcopy for use during the procedure):1) Check Device Manager to make sure the ATI card isn't still lurking on your system. To be sure click on Start>Run>Command. Once you're at the command prompt type (without quotes):"set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1"Next type:"devmgmt.msc"After Device Manager appears, click on "View", then click on "Show Hidden Devices". Navigate to the "Display Adapters" section and open it. If you see any other entries other than for your new nVidia card then delete them (any additional entries will probably be greyed). While you're in Device Manager disable (NOT remove) your internet connection.2) Use the Windows Add/Remove function to remove the chipset drivers and the nVidia video card drivers (just for that thorough cleaning).3) Now reboot into Safe Mode and use DriverCleaner Pro to scrub the system of ATI drivers, nVidia video drivers, and your chipset drivers. Leaving your internet connection disabled, reboot back into Windows. Be sure to empty the Recycle Bin before rebooting back into Windows.4) Motherbaords are different, so yours may want the chipset drivers installed first followed by DirextX. Or it may be the other way around. Do as Windows prompts with regard to what should be installed first. Whatever the install order, install only one package at a time (chipset or DX) then reboot and install the other. Then reboot again.5) Install your video card drivers and reboot.6) At this point I configure the video drivers as I wish and then reboot again just to make certain the registry sees the driver tweaks. Remember to enable your internet connection.Good luck,Greg
January 17, 200620 yr >I recently bought a new Nvidea GForce 256MB card for the>upcomming race as my old card was starting to fail and become>unstable when used for FS.Some basic questions, if you don't mind ;-)What model is the new card? If it's a 7800GT(X) you might try an older driver, for example 77.77. A lot of people have problems with this card and FS9. You'll find several threads on this forum on this topic.Have you benchmarked the new card with 3DMark03 or 3DMark05? Does the card perform well with other 3D-games/programs? Just to make sure that you don't have a problem with the new card as well or your motherboard.Hope you get the problem sorted out!Ulf B

January 23, 200620 yr No luck.I can't find any trace of the ATI Drivers on my drive.... However your first trick "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" gave me a Command not Found Error.THis is really pissing me off I can't practice or Race with the Sim in this condition and I can't reinstall because if I do XP's bootloader will overwrite my Linux one and i'll have to reinstall everything.
January 23, 200620 yr Go figure,After banging my head agianst the wall "and having been in Ubuntu Linux for a week cooling off from dealing with the dumb thing" I went back into FS today just to make sure I didn't have no stupid moduals in the background or some other innane thing I might have forgotten to check. It's working fine... For not rhyme or reason I'm getting outstanding 20 to 30 FPS down to 15 and 12 in moderate bad weather. For no apparent reason the issue appears to have fixed itself. I'm not complaining but I hate when that happens and I have no idea why because I feel like I haven't learned anything.:-(Ohh well at least the things working.
