Can I stay on the runway, please?

I know I joined the game late, but I picked up FS2004 last Sunday, and I've been having an absolute ball with it. I did have FS02, but for various reasons, I've only now just gotten the latest version. But when I take the default Lear and taxi into position on any runway, set the flaps at 8, and power up, I find that my nose starts drifting all over the runway on my takeoff roll, resulting in a lot of rudder input on my part to try and keep it straight, sometimes with disasterous results (like running over a taxiing C-17 at CHS, for example). I've even tried the AP heading hold button, with no luck.I have a Sidewinder Precision 2 for control. The weather settings don't seem to make a difference, as I have the same problem whether I have fair and calm conditions or updated real-world settings, and this seems to translate over to other aircraft I have, like Mike Stone's marvelous C-5.As for my system specs: P4 1.4GHz, 768MB RAM, XP Pro SP2, GeForce4 MX 4000 video card. Thanks in advance for any help!-Gavin

I suppose there cold be a number of causes, but in my case when I had this problem it was due to noise in my Saitek X45 HOTAS. The Payware version of FSUIPC can help in smoothing out axis inputs, and I also opened up my throttle and used some TV tuner cleaner on the rudder pot to get it to track better. That seems to have worked. You might try turning off your stick and using just the keyboard, and see if then you can track OK on the ground. If you need/want to dig further, with the free version of FSUIPC installed there is nice little utility AFSD which has a little window/ data logger that provides real time output of jsut about any kind of data you could want, including control inputs. Get it here:http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/afsd.htmlIt's more designed for people who are designing or tweaking the flight dynamics, but it has wide applicability for checking aircraft performance issues.scott s..
