April 19, 200620 yr Hello All,I have a strange performance issue in FS2004.After a clean re-install and upon entering my first flight session (KSEA-0800-weather clear) my FPS were holding steady at 30FPS (locked by my choice in settings menu). After exiting FS2004 and rebooting I entered my default flight again and noticed that my FPS were now at a lowly 15? I have not changed or altered anything in the mean time? System Specs are as follows:AMD 4000+ATi 9800Pro Omega 3.8.231 driverASUS A8V Mobo1GB Dual Channel RamSaitek X36 HotasMS Sidewinder Force Feedback JoystickI hope that this can be resolved. Many ThanksJuJu
April 19, 200620 yr JuJu,Clean install of WinXP as well? If you had your pc exposed to internet without a good firewall and antivirus, you might have caught a virus/trojan during the reinstall process. Happened to me a couple of years back :-( If this isn't the cause I really can't think of anything else than a hardware problem. Overheated cpu or graphics card?Ulf B
April 19, 200620 yr Thanks Ulf with your reply. My Windows OS is secure. I have uninstalled and re-installed since last post and the problem persists. First flight great FPS, after reboot back down to 40% decrease in FPS. I am now thinking that it must be the Fs9.cfg file and how it loads up preferences or driver info????I have also noticed that after an Hardware driver update (Ati Cats 6.3) the FPS are back to normal in the FIRST flight, after reboot and restart the FPS are back down...WEIRD.Always hoping for a fix.........JJM
April 19, 200620 yr If you're looking for FPS you might want to go back and try the Cat 5.7's. These are still the fastest drivers available for many 9800 Pro installations. Drivers are a bit system-specific but, as an example, they are 15% faster on my 9800 Pro than any other version (including everything up to the 6.4's). All mileage is, of course variable, but it's an easy thing to try - you can always reload the Omega's.DougP4 3.2E @ 3.680 (1.385 vCore - 230 FSB)Asus P4C800-E Deluxe (BIOS 1019)2 x 512MB Corsair TWINX CXM3700 (3-4-4-8)5 x 300GB WD HDD'sHercules 9800 Pro (128MB @ 410/360)Enermax 431W PSUEdited 'cause I can't spel Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. April 20, 200620 yr JuJu,I have the similar experience. After many tries, I found the problem was web surfing. If I go straight to FS after turn on the computer, I can get 20 fps cockpit, close to 30 fps in spot view.If I surfing the web then go to FS, frame rate dropped by 5 to 8 fps.I can duplicate these two situations consistantly.I'm not an expert on computer but I guess after you surfing the web, something running on the background which rob your fps.I have firewall but I don't have anti-virus running.~ Charles
April 21, 200620 yr Something is likely to be running in the background. You should use task manager to see what it is. I would not worry about FPS if you are getting smooth operation flying in FS9,Concentrating on FPS is a waste of time.
