Memory advice needed

Featured Replies

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 (3.2) with 1GB RAM consisting of 512MB,DDR,400 CL3(X2). I want to upgrade to 2GB RAM. I know very little about memory and want fast quality hardware. Any suggestions are welcome.Michael

To insure compatibility (making sure it will work) I'd either get another 1GB of the exact same RAM from Dell or replace everything with 2GB of new RAM. Mixing-and-matching memory modules from different sources can turn into a real nightmare. Keep them all the same.Doug

I assumed I would need to REPLACE the 512 X 2 with 1GB X 2. The question I have is what mfgr & type ram should I look for like clock speed or dual channel? Don't know what's best.Michael

You can get a recommendation from Crucial (it's very, very good memory) using the configuration tool at www.crucial.com . Their recommendation for the 8300 is http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartspecs.As...s&WSPN=CT441222 . Doug
